as Microsoft control your every day lives. That Xbox? It doesn't belong to you. What were you thinking? It's simply a tool to access the actual gaming system that exists only online. So enjoy that paper weight, doorjamb, whatever. It's a real top quality item,

@Mako Marauder... you are joking right? Seriously! Oh man. If that's true then Microsoft you can keep your pointless black hunk o plastic junk. It doesn't even do what my set top box does. Honestly what is the point? Are American cable TV services that dire?
My old Cable & Wireless service from many years ago offered all the things the Xbox One was talking about being revolutionary last night... minus the voice control. Mandatory game installs, blocking used games, and the fact that it will require an online connection
at least once every 24 hours. Count me out Microsoft. Not bothered about the lack of Backwards compatibility if I'm honest, but you can add that tick to the against column too. Thank God Sony still exist.

You can switch to offline mode by going to your network settings and selecting "Go offline" this will prevent the xbox from trying to conenct and it will use the locally stored savegames instead of trying to connect to the cloud.

You can access your network settings by following these steps

1. Press the Home button
2. Press the Menu button (right from the home button),and select
   Settings
3. From there select Network
4. on the bottom left you will see Go offline
