Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Good Fun

For those who don't like to be burdened with too much information I'll divide this into "Hal Shell" and "Full Shell" versions:

    HALF SHELL:

    - Fun to play.

    - Great graphics.

    - Good controls.

    - Great characters from the original Animated Series as well as the new.

    - Can be played with 3 other mates but is still a great single player experience.

    - In SP you can be any Turtle any time.

    - Turtle powers and abilities grow as u play and the game is designed 2 be replied as u level up.

    FULL SHELL:

I loved the 1987 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon series.

What caught my eye was the graphics really looked like the old Turtles that I loved and after seeing what a great job Platinum Games did capturing the original "Transformers" characters I was looking forward to this.

The franchise has passed from Mirage Studios to Nickleodeon and there's a new film out so my worry was am I getting the Ninja Turtles I knew and loved... or some pathetic attempt at a reboot that would be just as, if possibly less forgettable than "The Dukes
Of Hazard" or "Starzky and Hutch" films.

Well so far they've done a fantastic job.

Hamato Yoshi... Oroku Saki... Krang... the Evil Brain from Dimension X and of course Leonardo, Donatello (the thinking man's turtle), Michaelangelo and Raphael.

All there in a really fun game.

I'd heard people compliment it for it's visual style and gameplay... I'd heard people slag it for being 'short' and having 'recycled levels' and 'difficult bosses'.

It does look perfect for a Turtle game, very reminiscent of the 80's cartoon. In Multiplayer you can play with 3 other friends. 1 for each Turtle. In SP you can change to any Turtle you want at any time you want. The 4 Turtles have their own unique weapons
and moves as well as your own unique specials which progress and grow as you progress and grow as a character.

Play the game on easy and I agree the game might seem like a shorter title if you were just going to proclaim it "complete" after doing exactly that. But there are lots of collectables hidden throughout the levels, some of which you won't be able to reach
    until later.

The game has a learning curve so some people may be insulted to discover that starting the game on Normal may not necessarily give them the best experience. You have 4 different characters with different movesets and abilities and sometimes only 1 specific
Turtle is the right one for the job so if you don't switch to Leonardo and use his group heal... it won't happen.

Once you get to grips with the characters and start to realise how their multiple supers compliment each other then I'm sure playing further episodes on "Easy" won't be necessary but it won't hurt you at the very start.

So it can seem very hack and slash early on. In fact if you don't don't want to master the moves then you could probably button bash your way through a lot of the game the Turtles are fun to use and Boss Battles will require strategy to overcome.

It's early doors but this is turning out to be a pretty fun game.

    :)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Good Fun

I was liking what I was reading right down to the very last paragraph. I don't like buttons masters especially if you can get through levels. I prefer technical hack n' slash games like Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden etc.

it is technical. More on par with "Transformers" than "Bayonetta" but still with quite a lot of things to get your head around.

Each Turtle has their own unique weapon light attacks and heavy attacks which can be combo'd with different inputs to produce different attacks.

On top of that they each have 4 unique specials that you access by pulling "LT" and pressing the appropriate special button. These in turn have cool downs so they cannot be spammed.

Additionally you can do "Cross Attacks" where you link up with 1 or more of your brothers to unleash a devastating 2 player heavy attack.

Dodging cannot be spammed. If you over use it... it will not work. You have to let it come back (your dodge meter will go from green to yellow to red to you get smacked in the face and don't dodge.

You will only be able to mash your way through easy for a bit. You will not be able to complete the game like that. When you hit the bosses then specific action is required and specific Teamwork between Turtles.

So they have made a game that can be enjoyed on Easy and if you're used to technical hack and slashes playing this way will ensure quick progress through the game.

But as mentioned above your powers and abilities not only increase, but you unlock new ones and they expect you to re-visit the levels to discover more hidden items and perform better as well.

There are "charms" you can equip to give you buffs. You have a limit on Easy but can equip more on harder difficulties.

You have quick use items that you can equip, health, speed/movement/damage etc... and you buy these and your ability buffs with "Battle Points" that you get collecting orbs throughout the levels.

So this IS a technical hack n' slash. It's just accessible to people who perhaps are't used to a technical hack and slash and as you grow as a player the game grows to accomodate your newfound abilities and skills.

    It's fun.

If you like it not too hard then make it not too hard.

If you like a greater challenge then play on normal or higher and if you can beat the highest difficulty you'll unlock an even harder one.

Check out some gameplay videos if your'e a bit unsure.

It's probably the best Turtles game made to date.
