Thank you for your post. I understand you are experiencing an issue with a Gamer Tag change you made on the incorrect account. The only available option would be to change the gamer tag on the accidentally changed account, then set the gamer tag on the correct,
desired account.

The only way to claim a gamer tag in use by someone else is if said individual changes their gamer tag, that will then free up that previous tag for use.

Sorry to hear that you are going through this with the gamer tag. Unfortunately you are not the only one that is going through the 15 character to 12 character transfer for gamer tags. But, unless it causes a technical error within the XBOX software, it's
doubtful that it wont be changed back anytime soon. It was obviously changed to 12 characters for a reason and anytime a gamer tag is set up, it's always a good idea to choose your gamer tag carefully, especially after you use up your 1 free change without
the added charge.

Support lied to you. They seem to do that when they don't have an answer for someone and just want to get off the phone.

If the account was brand new, why don't you just keep that account and update the info, then have your friend create a new account?
