System Video Player not showing all files...

    Greetings!

I've currently got my 360 networked with my computer that uses an external hard drive. I've set up the folder hierarchy as simply as I could think... it goes

    E:\

    Movies

    Music

    TV

Within the Movies folder are just the files themselves, some are .avi, some are .mp4, some are mkv, etc. Not all of the movies in the folder are listed under System Video Player.

In the /TV folder, I've got folders sorted by title then season, example E:\TV\American Dad - Season 1\files E:\TV\American Dad - Season 2\files

I've got nearly 1TB of tv shows and movies I've amassed and thought this would be a great setup since I can't have the computer in the living room. However when I am using the System Video Player on the 360, not everything shows up. I cannot find a method
to the madness, either. For instance, it will show The Office - Season 7, and The Office - Season 9... no 1-6 and no season 8. The files are on my computer and they work (I've watched them from the computer) so I cannot see why they aren't showing up.

In Windows Media Center on the 360, I get really slow and choppy performance, and not all of the Movies show up.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    :)

Can Play Video only from USB Stick not through Shared PC

    Allo;

on the 360: My Video Apps -> System Video Player -> PC -> media file == does not play

on the 360: My Video Apps -> System Video Player -> Portable Device -> media file == plays just fine

(the "Portable Device" is simply a USB stick)

so it's the same player on the 360, same file, but two different "locations". Should play them both it seems... no?

System Video Player not showing all files...

A few years back Xbox stopped supporting a lot of video formats to prevent people from playing pirated videos on their consoles. The only format I've got my Xbox to play is wmv. It doesn't even do mp4 anymore for me. Which is kind of lame since most HD videos
    are either mp4 or mkv.

Yeah I've read a few articles and basically the suggestion was to either reset the connection, check permissions, and/or rename all video files to .avi... I've done the first two but the last suggestion is just ridiculous in my opinion. *Microsoftoft you
can't support your own operating system's capabilities? That's garbage.

I created a batch file to do mass renames on the files in my movies folder. Since I have VLC on the computer it'll play anything, but the 360 doesn't even SEE any files that aren't .avi....not all of the AVIs play on the 360, even when in Media Center...
but there's no way I'm redownloading seasons and seasons of shows and hours of movies. Pretty much I can only watch a fraction of my media on the 360. Microsoft, that is crap. When will you fully embrace the "we want the console to be the center of your home
entertainment" marketing ideology you've been advancing lately?

For anyone searching you can play mp4 files on your xbox by playing from a zip drive. You can only play mkv files with a player like vlc on your computer or any device that will drive that app. Playing avi files over a network works great, win media center
seems buggy in general and also doesn't show all files regardless of type.
