This also happened to me and i have a solution. Before downloading the update go in console settings and test xbox live connection at a point when connecting to xbox icon in test xbox live connection the moving dots will stop and a screen will appear to
apply update Then the update will go on without showing any error

I have the same problem too. Thanks for the suggestion roadkill, but it doesn't work for me. I get error codes 4099-0000-0080-0030-8007-0070 and sometimes 0570. Which leads you to think it's a connection problem. I've done everything to troubleshoot connection
problems, but in the end, if I do a tracert from the xbox to www.xbox.com it works. Just won't connect to Live. This is probably because I can't get the update to take. When I try it from a USB drive I get 4099-40A3-1600-267F-C000-0185.
