system update fails and can not connect to xbox live.

Lasting about 1 1/2 weeks now I have been forced into a system update while trying to connect to xbox live. This is the status code: 42FC-0000-3080-0508-8B05-0018 I have seen tons of posts about this and I usually would wait but this situation is absolutely
horrible. I also see documented on Microsoft several legitimate confirmations of a DOSATTACK on xbox servers. I walked through all the networking steps including checking router as a possibility. No joy. All of my other devices (wired/wireless) work just fine
and have always worked fine through this xbox live access, and system update problem.

Status Code : 397D 0000 3080 0506 8007 2EE2

There error code posted in the title means it can't connect due to connection... which could be as stupid as "I need to connect to live! But I need the update to connect... But I need to connect to live to download the update... But I need the update to
connect..." over and over again.

Personally, if it fails once, I scrap the download and do a manual update from

support.xbox.com/.../system-updates-info . You can use a usb or cd/dvd.

My System update seems to have failed somehow. I have restarted my network multiple times. Also i have internet and all is well with my router and modem. My computer works. It asked me every time i try to connect to live to update and then it fails. Fails
the system test at xbox live. Any help would be appreciated.

Please give the following steps a try:

• First, clear your Xbox 360 system cache 3 times.
  
• Power cycle your Xbox 360 console.
  
• Once your console is powered on, try downloading the update again.

If you are still unable to download the update, copy the update from your computer to a USB flash drive by trying the following steps:

Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system. For information about how to format a USB flash drive, see the “Format a USB flash drive” section of Xbox 360 USB flash drive
support.

1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
2. Download the update file.
   
3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
4. Unzip the file. If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
   
5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive (for example, E:\). Do not copy the contents to another folder on the USB flash drive (for example, E:\Files).
   
6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
7. Plug the flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
8. Restart the console.
9. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.
