system settings - language and regional settings

Hi! I am trying to set up my new xbox one. I am having problems setting the language and location.

Problem is that I need english as the language, but I am based in Norway - And my credit cards are registered in norway.

So if I chose language "english" , I am only getting a few options for location settings - and norway is not one of them. If I try setting the location to US or UK , I get problem when I want to purchase something , because the system won't allow (or I do
not know how to set ...) my Norwegian address when entering credit card , as the system expects i.e. an american zip code.

What can I do? any suggestions on how to set this up?

Sadly, there's no way to set the system language to English if you don't live in an English speaking country. I have the same problem, I absolutely hate the Brazilian Portuguese dubbed games and keep my settings as English/Canada (because Canada is more awesome, sorry US), but can't use credit card or Xbox Movies without resetting the system.
For now, the best we can do is vote in one of the several Xbox Feedback demands to dissociate languages from region on Xbox or let you download games on a language different from the system language.

You can change the regional setting of your console. Guide Menu, Settings, System Settings, Console Settings, Language and Locale,
Then select the correct country and language. If this does not help i think you may be able to edit the regional setting of your Microsoft account here; Sign in to your Microsoft account -I'm
not sure about this but please tell me if either of these resolved your issue.

Unfortunately there is no proper solution for this yet. At the moment you can only go and purchase your items on the Norwegian marketplace and then switch your account to UK to play. As the games are region free you are able to play them, no matter on which
marketplace you purchased them. So the only way for you is to switch between the countries.

But as having language and locale separated is an often requested feature you may want to vote and discuss on this feature at

as Microsoft collects feedback and suggestions on future improvements there

Thanks Bob. I'll definately go vote for it then. I am sure there are many others who'd prefer a different language than what is spoken at the address they currently live in.

Maximinn, try setting you console locale to USA. This is not the region of the console, but rather the locale/language settings of the console.

You can find this setting under Settings > System Settings > Console Settings > Language and Locale.

The account region should not affect the language of the game if your console language and locale settings override that. However, you cannot get benefits that the other region gets, but you can play your game in a language different from your account region.

Ok thank you, that actually solved my problem!

The game apparently defaults to French when the language is set to English (and only French and German are available languages for the game).

My region was set to Germany for some time but my console was always set to English. And the game always defaulted to French. So the game doesn't care about my region settings and only checks the language settings. When changing the console/system language to German the game is also German (English is not an option and when set as the system language changes the games language to French).

Crass tone aside, ngocphi is correct. While the console's language setting can be altered under Settings, System, Console Settings, Language it's the physical region that you're located in that determines availability of content in languages as well as the
language of the Marketplace regardless of console setting.
