  1. System link with xbox one s and xbox 360 slim

I currently own the xbox one s and 360 slim, and interested in playing games with system link, in particular Black Ops 2.

Since Black Ops 2 is backwards compatible, the 360 disc should be playable on my xbox one.

My main aim is to wireless system link both consoles as they are in different rooms with their own screen. I have tried to create a wireless network on the 360 slim using ad-soc, which is the method to wireless system link xbox 360 consoles, but the network
created is not being detected by my xbox one.

I do not own a crossover ethernet cable so currently unable to test out a wired system link.

I have yet to try connecting both consoles to my home wifi as I do not currently own 2 copies of the game to test it out.

So my questions are: Is it possible to wireless system link between xbox one and xbox 360? If not what are my options?

Actually one more question and this is a long shot - I currently use powerline network adapters to connect my desktop in a separate room to the wifi router. Would it be possible to use an ethernet crossover cable to connect my xbox one and xbox 360?

    Thanks,

    Rahul

    :)

Xbox One and Kinect 2's exact size, cable length revealed

Of course it is quite a bit bigger than the 360 slim, the original Xbox 360 was bigger than the slim, I'm sure it's bigger than the Xbox One slim will be too. That's the point of releasing the slim versions later on. But it is only 2.4cm longer than the original Xbox 360, which is what it should be compared to, not the revised, shrunk later released versions.

    Original 360 dimensions

    309mm x 258mm x 83mm

    Not much in it really.

The AD-Hoc protocol will not allow you to play LAN on your consoles -
you will need them both connected via the same router
or LAN (in your case wireless) and then start a LAN local lobby on one console in the game and join it on the other console if that is supported in your game.

You can use powerline adapters but they have problems with packet loss and bandwidth limitations, but it can be better than wired in some situations. I would recommend ethernet always.

  5. When you mention ethernet, would standard ethernet cables work or would I need the special crossover ones?

Also is there anyway to check a system link has been established between the two consoles without using a game?

If by crossover you mean one Ethernet cable just from one Xbox to the other, that won't work for anything. You need a router that they both connect to, to have them contact each other on LAN.

Regular Ethernet is all you need.

The only way to check to see if this works is to use a game that has a LAN option in the multi-player menu.

  7. The 360 system link page says you need an ethernet crossover cable that allows you to connect 2 consoles to themselves.

Can I use this cable and connect my xbox one and 360 or do I need a router and normal ethernet cables?

You need a router between both consoles or nothing will happen - No LAN, no anything.

You just need 2 Ethernet cables and a router or two wireless consoles and a router for this to work.

Dots appear on screen with some greenish-blue lights at the center. (Xbox 360 E)

You said it was repaired for the rrod with the red lights around the power button. Only the older fat systems do that. If its an older fat system sadly those are no longer serviced for repair due to their age. If yours is one of the older systems your only
option would be to buy another xbox 360 or better save for an xbox one if you dont already have one. If its a slim (xbox 360 S) or super slim then it can still be repaired if under warranty for free. If its out of warranty for a fee using the link that was
    provided.
