System/Dashboard Problem

Ok, so here's the deal. I just spoke with chat support over an error I've been having on the console. She tells me it's a hardware error and it's going to cost $135. She didn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed and I want to get one more opinion before
spending that kind of money.

The Error: Upon oping the keyboard (messages, text chat, etc.) The controller becomes unresponsive and I can't do anything. The only way to exit this "lock' is to tell my kinect to go home. Once I do this I
can't access my dashboard. This includes going left from the dashboard, trying to snap to toggle the menu, or using kinect commands for anything included in the dashboard. The only actual fix is a hard rest. Although this used to only happen rarely,
it has increased to happening almost everyother time I try to type anything.

Troubleshooting/Possible Causes:

Internet: I almost immediatly ruled this out, but decided to try thanks to tech support. Happens with wireless, ethernet, and offline.

Controller: Happens with both my Elite and wireless day one controller.

Resets: Yes, I've tried to turn it off and back on again. Hard resets 10+ times, unplugged from wall and powerbrick.

I've heard of similar errors with the preview program, but I'm not in it. Has this happened to anyone else, and have they found a fix? I really want to be catious before spending that kind of money, and also use this console a lot and have games from my
Dad and brother using my home xbox so they can play, and I know they will be lost. Just trying to be careful.

Problems with Dashboard audio

I seem to be having some problems with the audi on my Xbox One's dashboard. If I select an app or play a game there seems to be no issue however any video I watch off the dashboard or even the clicking sound you get when selecting something there is no audio. I see that there is a service announcement up for some Live functions on MS's website but do not really see anything about this particular issue. Any advice?

 

I can't sign into my xbox live account!

Clearing System Cache and redownloading wont work. Im in the beta dashboard programm and i have the same problem now...

 

I don't have an answer for you, but it may not be your console. I have heard of this from at least one other user, so it may be an issue with both of your consoles, but if it were me, I'd wait to see if it clears up in the next few updates since you're out
of warranty anyway. The other user tried a factory reset to no avail, but you may want to give it a shot anyway.

The only other suggestion I can think of is to try using a different account on your console and see if you get the same results.

Here's an update thanks to Ken's post. The error still occurs on two other accounts, and according to the other post, smartglass still works, so I tried it and it worked for me too. I don't know what to do now.

This exact thing has been happening to me as well, with slight differences in a few ways. I had a game freeze while playing and I had to power cycle my console due to it freezing out my whole system, no big deal (This was during Xbox Live's mini outtage
on the weekend I should mention so I didn't think much of it).

But a couple of days ago, it did this shortly after joining a party, so I hard cycled only to be met with the Green screen of Death. I finally managed to overcome that but for 2 days now my xbox will completely freeze like Coresponsive has described. It
Has gotten worse today where at the dashboard if I try to do more than a couple things, it completely locks up.

I have done 2 factory resets, one with keeping apps & games, and that didn't work. Did another complete one, thought I fixed it until it happened again when I went to the store, backed out and went to games and apps only to have it freeze completely again.

I appreciate any help and truly hope it isn't a console issue. I'm curious, has this issue been reported a lot as of late?

Yeah, me neither. I'm currently just letting it get some rest (don't know what that will accomplish, but I figure it's better than constantly power cycling after it freezes) for now. If I may ask, when did you notice this actually start happening a lot?
I just find it strange that a few people would develop system problems at nearly the same time. This gives me hope for SOME kind of fix. I'd hate to send it in or buy a new one with a fix on the horizon.

 

I'd say maybe 3-4 weeks ago, but it only got frequent the last week and a half. How about you?

 

It seems like a common issue in the newest OS update i'd say you should wait it out because i only experienced a locked keyboard in Minecraft which isn't so much of a big deal. And no fixes have been released yet so i'd say wait for a few more patches to
go through and see if it's still fixed. If it still consists let me know i'll leave more feedback for the preview program team so they're more aware.

I don't recommend you spend $135 alright it seems unnecessary.

 

3-4 weeks sounds about right, maybe closer to 2-3, but virtually the same timeframe. And like you said, maybe once every so often, but now it's crippling. I'm just trying to find any common links between people with this issue, Unfortunately for a few of
us, it seems a bit more drastic than others.

Thanks for the advice Purple. I'm still exercising caution and patience with the hope that it sorts itself out or a fix is released. Would you know if this could correlate with the recent influx of people who are connected to live but can't do anything
that requires it?

 

From what I've seen, the two issues don't seem to be related. To fix that, you can usually sign out and sign back in on the console. For some reason reboots don't seem to help. If you're having trouble with that too, you'll want to start a new thread so
you can get more help.

Regarding the original issue, I still haven't heard anything from my post in the preview forums, but that's fairly normal. The team is at least aware of the issue and can hopefully find a cause.

 

I'm not having that problem, I was just simply wondering for the sake of curiosity. Thanks for the update, I really hope a fix is found. I look forward to more updates.
