System automatically downloading a duplicate Sunset Overdrive to external HD

I already had Sunset Overdrive installed from disc to my internal HD, but as it was free with GWG I thought I'd download to get the digital licence so I could play without disc.

As soon as I "purchased" I could play my originally installed copy, without having to insert the disc - which is the same as other digital versions of games I've installed, which previously required a disc.

I recently attached an external HD, which is the default location now for my downloads.

When I logged on this morning I noticed on my bandwith usage there was around 24GB downloaded last night. I went to play Sunset Overdrive and it said it couldn't sync date and to try again.

I then looked at my external HD contents and saw it had Sunset Overdrive installed to it, despite it being on my internal HD, and being played using the digital licence yesterday.

Is it normal for the system to think that it needs to download the whole thing again to the external HD? Maybe it doesn't check to see if it's already on the internal one?

External hard drive losing games?

I have an external HDD attached to my Xbox One and have/had Halo and Sunset Overdrive installed. I have made sure all my games are installed on the HDD too. I was playing Sunset Overdrive this morning. I turned off my Xbox one and unplugged the HDD to take
it to a friends and when I plugged it into my friends Xbox One and started it up (and signed in as me) it now wants to download the whole of Sunset Overdrive and Halo again!?

Have I done something wrong?

Hi, that would appear to be as it should. The installed and digital versions of games are treated as two separate items, you could always uninstall the disc version as you won't then need to have the disc in the drive to play the game.

 

I've previously downloaded a free games with gold that I had a disc version already installed for, and it didn't duplicate. Perhaps because it was on the internal device, and I didn't have an external one then?

 

Yes that would explain things, as you set the external drive as the default drive the Xbox would just download the game to that.

 

I just had the same problem only I have 2 copies of the game in my list of games on my Internal Drive. I figured i would just delete one and play the other but when I tried that it brought up an error code related to trying to stream TV on a 360. It won't
even let me delete the "shadow" copy only the copy from my disc. I can also only install from the disc otherwise it stops at 2% and the progress bar starts having a spaz attack.
