swapping gamertags on two accounts

Some time back I was checking to see if a gamertag was available. I accidentally started a new account with the gamertag I had wished to change to. Is it possible to switch gamertags of my two accounts? If I were to change gamertag Alpha to gamertag Bravo.
Would I be able to change gamertag Charlie to gamertag Alpha?

Hi, there's no way of merging two accounts together, so yes you'll have to do some swapping of emails with your two Gamertags. Here is a guide on how to do this;

Yes you can. It's a little bit involved, so it's probably easiest I just link you to the page:

Yes. Once you change Alpha, it should free up that tag to be used on another account so you can change Charlie to it.

 

As Smwutches indicated that is the way it should work but keep in mind you will be charged for each change required to complete the cycle. If I am thinking correctly that would require 3 different changes.

 

It would just be 2 changes. 1 for the original name, and then 2 to change the other tag.

Another thing to keep in mind though, the name may not be freed up immediately. So if you do try to change the second tag right away and it doesn't work, you may just have to give the servers time to update.

You can't change either until you make a change freeing up a tag. Change 1 to some arbitrary name. That is one change and you still don't have either tag like you want it. Then you would change #2 to what #1 was then you can change #1 to what 2 was. In
my way of thinking that is 3 changes.

He's not looking to change gamertag 1 to what 2 was. .Just changing gamertag 2 to what 1 was.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it would work by freeing up the gamertag I want. Wasn't sure if Xbox would allow the gamertag to be used again.

 

Is there a way to get this confirmed by a Xbox moderator?
