Suspend and resume does not work.

I have never had a game successfully resume after launching another app. I could leave AC4 running, turn off the console (standby), and come back later or days later and resume with no problem. But if I left it running, launched XBox Fitness, then went back
to AC4 later, loading screen. This was before the March update. Other games, like NFS, never would resume probably because it's always online and you're connected to someone else's box, or other people to yours. I don't think it works they way they demoed/intended
it to.

It is worth noting that xbox fitness is classed as a game, not an app, so launching it will cause any game you have running to terminate.

And your theory on NFS Rivals sounds feasible.

Is it possible you could follow the steps i provided 5 posts above this one and post the results?

I may not be able to tonight, but will try sometime this week. I have snapped IE as well as Live TV while playing a game though, so that pseudo pause worked ok.

I don't know what to classify Xbox Fitness as . It's listed under Games on the Support page, but then right there they call it "Xbox Fitness app". I can't remember if you download it from the App or Games store on the console. In any case, it doesn't
really matter.

 

Xbox Fitness is a game, so the termination of AC4 is "by design" (I would use the word "expected" but you could argue it is un-expected since we don't warn you...)

E Mc Sq, I tried your steps a couple times at work last week, and could not repro. One difference though is that I don't have "real" retail games at work, just test games. I'll try your steps at home tonight on my retail console.

 

I forgot to ask, what are you power options set to in Settings->Power & Startup? That might make a difference.

Turn off after 6 hours,

Power mode:Instant on and all 3 boxes ticked.

Also, my games are all digital

Hmm. Maybe the repro is determined by time. With Forza running, I can launch 10+ apps, letting them all load, using them for 30 sec, and come back to Forza and it is still running. But then I came upstairs to write a couple emails, went back downstairs and
my controller had gone to sleep, and when re-launching Forza it launched from scratch.

Forza re-launches on sign-in/sign-out. You can repro that on demand. Maybe the controller disconnect is triggering their restart logic...

 

Interesting..

So i tried loading Forza, then launched 2 apps, shut down the controller, went back to Forza and it was still running.

So i then tried switching between 10 apps with controller disconnected and to my suprise the game was still running.

I then repeated my previous steps, pad still disconnected, and this time the game had terminated.

I also tested Ryse and that terminated first attempt.

To my knowledge i hadn't been signed out.

It all seems a bit random.

Once again UnholyRoth, i would like to thank you for testing this out during your free time, and i hope i didn't come across as a nag.

My "Resume" function has completly stopped working. This function worked 95% of the time as advertised from launch day no matter how many apps I switched to, or if the console was powered down.

This completely stopped sometime in January, and on top of that I am now greeted with "does this game belong to you?" There's a disc in the system so.....

This occurs across all titles. Ryse, BF4, NBA 2K14, Titanfall..

Spent more time trying to find a pattern that causes game termination, and it just seems random.

Getting signed out DOES cause termination, but i never get signed out and the game still quits.

Joypad going to sleep doesn't sign you out, not in Forza or any other game, so that shouldn't cause termination.

Joypad on, joypad off, makes no difference. Sometimes it suspends, sometimes it terminates.

And it is not isolated to one game, but all my games(DR3, Fifa, KI, Ryse, Forza)

And, just like you mr FEAR, my resume games quickly (resuming a game after the system has been off in instant on mode) has only ever worked twice, and one of those times Ryse was just an untextured Marius standing inside a giant skybox, unable to move.

Frustrating and mysterious.

So today i turned on my xbox, loaded a game.

Then i opened Internet explorer, browsed for 10 mins.

Back to game and... game terminated.

IE was the only app i had opened today.

All of my tests that caused game termination have included IE.

Its the one app you can't uninstall, so i can't test my theory, but i'm starting to think its something to do with IE...maybe?

UnHolyRoth: Do the xbox's you have at work have Internet explorer installed?

You said you couldn't get games to terminate at work, but Forza did terminate on your home console.

Your theory about joypad going to sleep, causing sign out, thus causing temination sounded good, but i tested that and pad going to sleep does not cause a sign out on any game i have, so we can scratch that.

Is internet Explorer the key to this mystery?

 

Happens on all my downloaded games (Tomb Raider, Peggle, Killer Instinct and Titanfall).

If I leave the game and go watch Netflix, Amazon Instant Video or say Xbox Turn Off. When I resume the game there is always some weird issue. No audio in the game. Or just hangs.

I have to then load another game to get the game I want to play to run.

 

So I just tried with Killer Instinct, it's the only fully digital game I have right now. I started it, got into a local match of me vs CPU, paused it and went to the dashboard. I then opened IE, browsed, went back to game and it resumed fine. So I went
back to IE, then YouTube and watched a video, Xbox Video, Machinima, IE, Skype, Upload, Amazon Video, and finally IE again. Went back to the game, and it still resumed fine. Went out, went to friends, started a party, went to IE, back to game and it was fine.
Every time I went to IE it always started me from the Bing home page and not where I had browsed to.

I can try again later with a disc-based game, but right now it seems to me it's related to being online/offline in the game or maybe region-centric. I'm in the US and don't know what Demand 5 or OD are and couldn't find them in the app store.

I decided to copy the steps you provided 3 times and:

First time Killer instinct terminated.

Second time game succesfully resumed.

Third time: game terminated.

I timed the amount of time i was away from the game whilst switching and it was just over 8 mins.

Conclusion: I'm more confused than ever.
