Suspend and resume does not work.

Let me describe what happens:

I start up Forza, go to a single player race.

Half way through a race i switch over to IE, then Netflix, youtube, upload, xbox video, Machinima.

I then go back to Forza, expecting to resume the race where i left off, but instead i''m greeted with the Forza loading screen. Game progress lost.

This happen all the time, across all the games i own. (DR3, Fifa, KI,Ryse)

My understanding was that as long as i don't load another game my progress is suspended.

However it seems that games will close when loading apps.

Its very frustrating to lose hours of progress in DR3.

Have i misunderstood how this machine functions?

A response from support would be much appreciated.

The following video shows how the suspend and resume functionality of the xbox one does not work as advertised.

The video shows me playing Ryse , switching through multiple apps and returning to Ryse to find it terminated.

You can see in the video that I was not signed out nor did I change profiles.

I was using the controller to switch so the pad didn't go to sleep.

And the video shows I did not load another game.

This is my second xbox one console and the previous one also failed to suspend and resume.

The video is unedited and lasts for 15 minutes, it is very boring to watch but clearly demonstrates a potential bug in the OS.

An official response would be much appreciated.

Am i the only one losing game progress due to suspend and resume not functioning as advertised?

Why do my games close when i'm on netflix or ie?

Is there a time limit on how long a game will suspend?

Is there a limit to how many apps i can open before the game closes?

Please help.

 

If I remember I'll try this tonight but I have noticed the quick resume feature is no longer working, at least not consistently.

 

The feature does work inconsistently, so you should really be saving your progress when you exit the game.

Suspend and resume was one of the big features of the X1.

I googled and binged for hours and couldn't find one report of suspend and resume not working.

I accept that things can go wrong with a console as complex and ambitious as the new Xbox, but suspend/resume always fails me, day in day out.

In fact it happened again just before i started writing this.

I am very impressed with the system, kinect, twitch streaming, t.v intergration,games, visuals (have you seen Ryse?!) and MS's system updates have improved the experience greatly.

But suspend resume is a tad disapointing.

If it can't be relied upon, if you risk losing progress, then it might as well not even be there.

 

Any chance of a response from support?

Suspend and resume is an advertised feature of the system and it does not work on a consistent basis, making it almost useless.

Is there a patch incoming?

Is MS aware of this flaw in the OS?

Why does my game close while i'm watching Netflix, or twitch or ie for example?

It says clearly on this very website that i can take a skype call watch t.v or surf the web and come back to my game exactly where i left off.

This is not the case, at least not for me. It fails 9/10 times.

Do i have a faulty xbox or a dodgy cable?

Or does the X1 not function as advertised?

I appreciate support must be busy, but i really would like a response regarding this.

So i assume this isn't an issue for anyone else and my X1 is faulty?

A key, advertised feature of a console that does not actually work as, and there is not one article or post that i can find across dozens of bing and google searches that details the same problem i have described.

But this is my 2nd X1 and it behaves exactly like the first... games (and apps) don't suspend and resume, they just eventually close, for seemingly no reason.

It was only the console that was replaced,not the cables.

Could a dodgy power supply cause these issues?

Or the Kinect?

I would appreciate some feedback before i arrange a potentialy needless repair/replacement.

The game should always stay running no matter how many other apps you launch. If you launch too many apps, non-visible apps will start getting terminated, but the game is supposed to always stay running. BUT, you can only run one game at a time. If you launched
a 2nd game, the 1st game will get terminated (without any warning...)

Can you give exact repro steps that reproduce your problem 100% of the time? That would be great, and I will try them here at work. I don't have Forza here, but tried another game, and I could not get it to terminate, even after launching 12 different apps.

1. Launched my game
2. Launched 12 different apps (Achievements, Activity, Avatars, Friends, Game DVR, Gesture Tutorial, Internet Explorer, Messages, Party, Settings, TV, and Upload)
   
3. Went back to the game, and it was still running

I tried the following 5 times and the game was terminated each time:

(NOTE: i browsed each app for 2 to 3 minutes, opening videos etc, before switching to the next)

Load game.

Opened apps in this order: IE, TWITCH, DEMAND 5, 4OD, XBOX VIDEO, MACHINIMA, UPLOAD, ONEDRIVE, SKYPE, IE.

Back to game, game terminated.

I would greatly appreciate if you could test this out, and remember to let each app fully load before switching.

Pulling my hair out over this.

I provided the steps that always cause game termination 2 posts above.

I have tried the following:

Plugged the xbox into a different socket= still does it.

Hard reset= still does it

Unplugged Kinect= still does it

Used a different profile= still does it

Got a new X1 unit= still does it.

I appreciate i am not the only person with problems, but it would only take 10 minutes to test out the steps i provided.
