    Surround sound problems

Noticed some issues recently regarding surround while using the xbox. Setup is dish 722k to xbox one to pioneer vsk522k receiver to tv. When using the xbox to play a DVD or play games, front volume is low and voices switch between center channel and
right and left channels and when it's thru center channel its even lower. sound effects and music sound fine. I noticed this lately when I started playing wolfenstein, voices from the front are super low, back is much louder. Thought it was just the game
but recently put in a DVD and its similar issues. Sound from the dish receiver sounds just fine and a htpc connected to another input on the surround receiver sounds fine so it seems isolated to the xbox one. Any ideas? I've tried messing with the audio
    settings with nothing fixing it.

    :)

    Surround Sound Problems

I am not sure how long I have had my current problem, but I began realizing that my center speaker in my surround sound system is outputting no sound at all when hooked up to my Xbox one. The Xbox is connected with HDMI to the receiver and the receiver is
connected to a projector, but I have also tried connecting with a fiber optic cable and have experienced the same problem. My blu-ray player connected to the same receiver by HDMI has no issues with the center speaker not working, so I believe it to be either
an Xbox issue or a configuration I may have overlooked. My receiver is a Sony STR-DH520 and the speakers are all Onkyo. I can get the center speaker to have audio from the Xbox one, but only when the output is set to stereo, which obviously destroys the point
of surround sound. Even when configuring the Kinect with the surround sound it doesn't play the musical tone to test the speaker level from the center speaker. I am happy to try anything that might fix the issue. I entertained the idea that there might be
a problem with the cables themselves, but found it unlikely that both the HDMI and optical cable would have the exact same issue.

This is the link to my receiver's manual. Currently the display shows LPCM 48 kHz when connected via HDMI audio, regardless of my chosen surround sound field.

I have the Xbox 360 slim. I got a new surround sound system for Christmas. I am connecting to it with an hdmi cable. Everything works great except I have to go into the system settings and tell the Xbox to output as 5.1 surround sound every time I turn
it on. I shudnt have to do this it seems like. If I got an optical digital cable would that solve the issue?

    Hey there th3suff3r1ng!

Sorry to hear about the surround sound issues. Just to make sure that we have not missed any troubleshooting steps, I recommend trying a few to see if we can get this issue sorted.

Please give the following steps a try:

    • Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 5 seconds.
    • Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.
    • Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console.
    • Power on your console and check out our Configuring audio settings on your Xbox One console page to verify that you have the correct settings enabled.
Give the suggested steps a shot and let us know if your are still experiencing issues with surround sound.
