  1. Surround sound / optical output issues

I have an Xbox one (call of duty version) I have the HDMI cord plugged into my TV and the optical cord plugged into my receiver (Yamaha RX-V383). In the settings on the Xbox I had the HDMI set to Stereo uncompressed and the optical set to bitstream and the
format set to DTS. Everything worked fine until a couple weeks ago when I noticed my Receiver was no longer putting out sound.

I checked my settings and they didn't change. So I started to try different settings. The only optical setting that now works is stereo uncompressed. If I set the optical to bitstream and the format to DTS or Dolby digital My receiver sees and displays what
signal the xbox is set to, I just get no sound.

I read doing a cold restart will clear cache and may fix this. When I try this, during the boot up of the Xbox my receiver will display DTS and during the green Xbox screen I do hear the start up sound then when it gets to where it signs into my profile
the sound is gone. This happens during the boot sequence before getting to my home screen.

I called Xbox today and trouble shot a lot of sound settings to no avail. Even did a factory reset. During the troubleshooting we took the optical out and plugged the HDMI into the receiver then from the receiver to the TV. This for some reason gave me
no sound what so ever no matter what the setting for the HDMI output. (thinking maybe the HDMI on the receiver isn't working although it's never been used before) The sound on the HDMI works if plugged into the TV but the only setting it will let me choose
is stereo uncompressed. all the other settings say they are un supported when trying to choose them. which makes sense because my TV only has 2 speakers.

So no matter what output I use my only working sound is stereo uncompressed (HDMI or Optical). I no longer am able to get surround sound from my Xbox One.

If anyone Else is experiencing this problem or may know how to fix it please post and add to this thread because customer service said I was he first to report the issue with the Optical output / Bitstream. I would like to bring awareness to the problem
so it is addressed and fixed.

They said it might be an issue with the last update.

    :)

Please support Dolby Digital 7.1 optical out !!!

    Hi,

I have a Tritton AX 720 gaming headset, which gives me fantastic surround sound on Xbox 360 over the optical output of the console.

But on Xbox One I only have Stereo, because the Tritton headphone amp doesn't support DTS. So please Microsoft implement optical DD 7.1 optical output or at least DD 5.1, so I get surround sound with the Tritton.

What cable do I need to run my XB1 to my surround sound reciever...

You can either use the Optical TosLink or just you the TV output sound L and R to your surround sound receiver. EASY!

Does any one know whether this would be considered a hardware issue and If I would be able to send in my console for repair covered under the warranty?

Still no Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround after update

Dolby Digital is surround sound. There is a separate option for stereo audio on the optical output. I can definitely tell a difference between stereo and surround with my A40s, and the bitstream Dolby Digital is definitely surround.

Seriously MS please fix the surround sound issue on the Xbox One...very disappointed :(

run your sound from your tv optical out to your receiver optical in......don't use the xbox for outputting sound.....just run the hdmi from the xbox to your tv.......I had trouble with the surround until I did this and now I'm getting surround (5.1 in my
    case)

will my current head set work with xbox 1.

Has anybody considered what their current surround sound headset transmitter / mixamp will do with the X1's optical output, because at launch it only outputs stereo or DTS over optical and not Dolby Digital, which is what most current headsets decode?
