    Surround Sound help!

I just bought a new home theater system today and I've been trying to hook it up to my Xbox One. I'm not sure if it's really playing in surround sound though because when I play a game I hear the same sounds in the rear speaker as I do in the front. Aren't
the rear speakers supposed to only play background noises?

So here's how have things set up. I have the optical cable connected from my surround sound sytem to the TV. My Xbox One is connected to my TV via HDMI. When I go to audio setting on my Xbox One and try to change HDMI Audio to 5.1 uncompressed it says "Check
your audio receiver- there was a problem using this setting and to make sure my audio receiver supports it". The optical audio setting is set to Bitstream Out and the bitstream format setting is set to DTS Digital Surround. However. I don't think that the
optical audio is even doing anything because when I turn the setting off it still has sound but when if I turn off the HDMI audio setting it goes mute.

Am I supposed to hook the optical cable direct from the surround sound sytem to the xbox one? If so I don't know how that's gonna work because I need my cable box, xbox 360, and Xbox One to all be in surround sound but I don't wanna have to keep unplugging
the optical cable every time I change systems.

Anyways, sorry for the long message. This is really getting on my nerves though and I'm trying to get everything ready to play Destiny tomorrow night so I can have the best experience possible. Thanks.

    :)

    Surround Sound / Audio help

    Hello,

I havent posted here so forgive the rookie post however I was wondering if I could pick your brains about something. I've recently bought a new Surround Sound System (nothing fancy, the type that comes with a blueray player) and cant for the life of me get
it to play with all 5 speakers on the Xbox! I get left right and some bass.

    The connections I have are:

    Xbox to TV (HDMI)

TV to Surround Sound System (Digital Coax or S/PDIF Digital with a Coax connector)

The systems I have are the Hitachi 42HXT12U and the Philips HTB3520G. As you can see nothing fancy but I was hoping that I might at least get some sound from all of my speakers. I'm hoping im being an idiot and I havent selected the right option in the Audio
settings but I cant seem the find the right one. Can anyone help?

Xbox video store - no surround sound

All the movies list only English audio and no surround sound. I know they used to advertise surround sound. Does anyone know if the movies still have surround sound? even my purchased movies don't show surround sound. No DTS or Dolby

The way you have it connected your AVR is not getting any audio signal from the one..You need the HDMI out of the one to go to the AVR.

@Toxic M1ndz There is a good chance your tv is not capable of passing 5.1 sound out of the optical audio output some brands do while others don't check your tv specs to see if your tv supports it. I don't think any tv will carry 5.1 DTS through the optical
out. The tv will downconvert the signal to stereo PCM which sounds like what your getting.

If your souround sound setup has HDMI inputs use those. They are much better then optical and will carry all audio formats. Then use your receiver as a video switcher.

    Sound cuts out????

Hi had this problem and fixed it, go to your surround sound settings on your surround sound system and change the surround sound settings to manual, the cutting out is the xbox one triggering different sound effects from your audio system, such as changing
from cinema to home etc... hope this helps anyone else, reset console after you have made the changes to your surround sound.

How do headsets work on the xb1?

You still need to purchase a headset that has surround sound available on it. The Xbox is not able to make a stereo headset give surround sound. Hope this helps!

    Help with surround sound please

The HDMI standard does support surround sound ...
    en.m.wikipedia.org/.../HDMI

I would check HDMI output setting on the xbox, there are 4 settings ... Stereo uncompressed, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed, and Bitstream out. Try the x.1 settings and Bitstream setting to see if the receiver recognizes surround sound. If not, you will
likely need to use an optical cable to connect the Xbox to the receiver.
