  1. Surround Sound help...optical cable to reciever

Hello there, just purchased an Xbox One S and a HDR capable TV. I have the xbox connected directly to the TV (to get full HDR capability). I then have an optical cable going from the Xbox to my AV receiver (Onkyo TX-NR1030 if it matters). The problem
I am having is that the only way I can get the receiver to output surround sound while playing a game is if I have the optical audio setting on the xbox set to stereo uncompressed. Wouldn't the better option be for it to be set to bitstream, and then DTS
    or Dolby??

To add to this, if I have optical audio set to bitstream and either DTS or Dolby, netflix outputs surround sound just fine using the netflix app on the xbox one?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, and I just should leave it on stereo uncompressed and move on....any help is appreciated thank you!!

    :)

  2. Optical Cables

the optical cable is to carry Dolby Surround to a compatible reciever. I personally get mine add-on A/V cables from ebay for a few bucks a piece. The optical cable signal is light, not an electric signal, so you dont need some overpriced cable to make it
    sound great.

Surround Sound issues using XBOX ONE (games work in 5.1, apps only in stereo)

I had this same problem with my lg surround system. But I did what you did. Hdmi to my tv and ran an optical cable to my surround. This worked fine. Dumb question but you are changing your reciever to the optical input right.

Optical out patch coming soon ?

If your receiver supports DTS surround sound, then you can get surround sound from your XB1 via optical cable. Right now it's the only option for surround sound via optical. It would be nice to know when they're going to start rolling out some system updates.

Xbox360 HDMI into Suround sound then to tv?

I have a samsung surround system(forget the model) and use the digital audio cable for my surround sound an hdmi cable to the tv for the video. I think it works better than the hdmi through the surround reciever.
