Surround sound format?

Just wondering as my receiver's matrixing does best with source audio, what is the Master Chief Collection's natural format? LPCM 5.1 or Dolby? Also is it possible for Halo 2 anniversary to be recorded in 7.1 with everything else at 5.1? I've noticed in
the credits for CE Anniversary a "5.1 mix" lead, so that's definitely 5.1, however a gaming news source described Halo 2 Anniversary to have 7.1.

Another question for Gears Ultimate Edition, I've seen it has Dolby 7.1, but the One can't stream that format, only 5.1. Is it a PC thing or does the One process the Dolby 7.1 to LPCM 7.1? Does the One version only have 5.1?

It would be really nice if the marketplace mentioned the resolution and audio capabilities like it used to, it's all so vague now :/

Xbox video store - no surround sound

All the movies list only English audio and no surround sound. I know they used to advertise surround sound. Does anyone know if the movies still have surround sound? even my purchased movies don't show surround sound. No DTS or Dolby

Surround Sound Headset?

This is a good question, but I've never considered doing something like this before. If you wait a bit longer, there will probably be a patch come out (or another adapter) to enable Dolby Digital capabilities.

You're in luck! You don't need a special surround headset, as there now is a new sound format being broadcast to the controllers called "Windows Sonic".

This is a virtual surround format, that allows normal stereo headsets to produce surround sound by delaying and echoing the surround channels in a way, your ear actually hears them from behind, above or wherever.

Since you only have two ears, two speakers can be enough to fool your ears into hearing things from different positions besides only left and right. Your two ears detect the position from a sound by the short echoes and delays each ear hears compared to
the other ear. So instead of having a dedicated speaker in the position from where the sound is coming from and having your ear figure it out that that specific speaker in that position is making the sound, the Windows Sonic format already pre-calculates the
delay from when one ear is supposed to hear a certain sound compared to the other, so your ears are fooled into hearing positional surround sound with "only" a stereo headset.

You should find the setting via Settings -> Display and sound -> Audio output.

Neural-THX® is the mode for 5.1 playback.

There IS a Default for HDMI ... It is used, when HDCP is Disabled

You have no documentation that shows there are defaults.

HDCP is for encryption. It has no control over what format video and audio are in over HDMI.

Same problem I am having I had to switch over to DTS for home theater or DTS surround sound to get IMAX sound format to enjoy my 4 height, channels, Microsoft Igotta fix this issue.

Can you check to make sure the audio formats on your STB and Live TV app are the same? Do 1 of the following:

1) Set your STB to stereo PCM instead of dolby/surround

2) Go to Live TV settings -> Troubleshooting -> and checkmark the Surround Sound (Beta) option
