How to connect my XBOX ONE S to my TV / Soundbar

    Hi all,

I hope that some one can help me with my TV and my XBOX ONE S. So far, I'm pretty disappointed with the audio setup.

Frankly speaking, it seems that the engineers simply forgot that an UHD-player should support HD-sound, too.

But lets's start with my setup.

    TV Sony 65XD8505

    Yamaha YSP-4100 7.1 soundbar

    XBOX ONE S

    Current connections:

XBOX ONE S directly connected to TV via HDMI 1 (soundbar does only support HDMI1.4a)

XBOX ONE S connected via TOSLINK to soundbar

TV connected to soundbar via HDMI4 (ARC) or TOSLINK

So far, I haven't figured out on how to get 7.1-Sound from my XBOX ONE S playing (UHD-)Blurays to my soundbar (eg. DTS-HD 7.1). I already selected direct bitstream in the Bluray-Player's settings. But it seems that the direct bitstream does only work via
HDMI but not TOSLINK. Is there any way to have the uncompressed soundtrack being played via TOSLINK to my soundbar? if not, whats's the sense of having an optical output if it can playback re-encoded Dolby/DTS 5.1?

BTW: The soundbar is not the bottleneck as it can play 7.1-sound from my old bluray player via digital out (TOSLINK or COAX) without problems.

Is there any good HDMI-AUDIO-Extractor which supports 60HZ-HDR10-HDCP2.0-7.1 which I could use to solve the issue? I would prefer a direct connections via TOSLINK, though.

I chose the XBOX because of the UHD-Bluray support but without re-encoded sound is pretty useless.

    Kind regards,

    Daniel

What to do with the TOSLINK port

Right now the xbox one output optical TOSLINK 5.1 threw DTS surround. DTS is actually better then Dolby 5.1 but some audio equipment doesnt have support for DTS, dolby toslink support is set to come next year, but right now 5.1 with toslink is possible
(ive been using it) but only if your recieved supports DTS. Best option you have now is to set the toslink optical to stereo, and then use your dvd player to put it into Dolby Pro Logic II mode. This mode a simulated 5.1 that takes a stereo signal and makes
it a kinda fakish 5.1 while not true 5.1 is will be better then just 2.0 stereo till dolby is patched in.

Support - Xbox 1 Toslink broken

    Hi there,

the best step to take first is a hard reset of your console - you can do this by:

    - Turning the console on

    - Letting the startup initialize fully

    - Holding the power button on the console for up to 10 seconds (it will shut down during this time)

    - Turning the console back on

if this does not resolve your issues, it would appear your console is suffering from a number of hardware failures (TOSLINK port not working, console not detecting controllers), etc. You should contact support in this case and run the issues by them, it's
possible your console may require a repair.

support.xbox.com/.../contact-us and select "chat with Microsoft Support" at the bottom.

    Good luck!

    Audio, Please help

The xbox one provides audio through HDMI or Optical (toslink) only. You would need speakers that support one of these formats.

    Capture Card Help

Excellent, yep! Use the toslink and hdmi cable.

Toslink from your xbox to the x41 and Hdmi from the xbox to the pc capture card. That should do the trick for you.

    Afterglow Universals and Xbox One

I'm going to assume not because it likely uses the AV connectors (red/white). The Xbox One doesn't have an AV port and only supports HDMI or Optical Toslink.
