Super slow downloads on Live today

Anyone else seeing this? I'm in the UK. I have a 160 Mbps download speed and my Xbox One is connected to my router via an ethernet cable. Usually I get really fast speeds. Today I bought Sniper Elite III in the sale (23 GB) and after an hour it was only
4% downloaded.

I've just started downloading the new dashboard update for preview program members and that is downloading a painfully slow rate too.

Maybe it's because of extra traffic due to the game sale.

Hi Guys,

I am having a stupid amount of Xbox LIVE issues at the moment. I quit xbox for about 3 months and I came back to find I can not join XBL game without lagging. Also I have been trying to download GTA 4 now for 2 days. It is taking the p*** and is driving
me insane. I tested my download speed and it is 80MB/s with 30ms Ping. I can download something on my computer that 1gb in about a minute. I just want to know why my XBL connection is so rubbish? I have 4 Bar connection in the test area and open NAT. It's
really ticking me off.

SOME PLEASE TELL ME WHATS GOING ON!

You have to be in the dashboard or not playing any games while you're downloading

 

Got SE as well and took about 3 hours to download. Im on wifi and have about a fifth of your speed. Also just did the March preview update and it was quick.

 

Xbox live was Ddos attacked a few days ago could be the servers are messed up. Give it time they will be fixed.

 

^^Source for this claim? Outside of the Friends List being down for an hour or two last night I haven't had a single issue in the last few days.

I absolutely hate Lizard Squad and hope they all die a painful death! What is it exactly that they have against XBL? What did it ever do to them!?

 

It took about 1-2 minutes for the Xbox 1 Dashboard to "Sync" when I fired up Zoo Tycoon on my console this evening. Lizard Squad has been on Australian and New Zealand news so they must be notorious if we hear about them in our area. However Microsoft has
experts too. And they have servers around the world. They can't attack the Xbox Live servers directly because it's too secure, and each data centre is a secure facility with fire suppression systems I read about it when Microsoft rolled out two data centres
in Australia and how many millions of dollars it costs to build a data centre. When you sign in on this site, the address bar is highlighted green and has a padlock on IE. That's professional level security. ANZ which is our and a major bank in NZ and Australia
uses this level of security. Whichever country those culprits live in their government does little to enforce their laws. In NZ and I'm sure Australia has it, if you computer hack, you can get a prison sentence and fine for it, regardless if it endangers peoples
lives or not. If it endangers peoples lives, the prison and fine sentence is more harsher.

 

Every time Xbox Live has issues, I am going to put the blame on those kind of peps and the like, until I hear they are behind bars. It is not Microsoft's fault. None of this new technology isn't perfect. I heard Microsoft's Xbox Live Azure servers are amongst
the most reliable servers in the world. While not perfect, it just makes it worse when peps take advantage of the system for their own selfish purposes, and then they want us to point our finger and blame Microsoft for not doing a good job. You only have to
Google it. The dos attack has been mentioned in Australian and New Zealand news. I just know they're planning an April Fools prank.

If the culprits lived in NZ or Australia, they would be behind bars of have been fined already. Our authorities don't stand for this type of behaviour. Yes there are prison and fine sentences even if it doesn't endanger lives it's written law. 1.6kbs? That's
worse than dial up.

 

Yeah thought it was my ISP first so did speed test would get between 125-156mbps

I know the usage speed on xbox is not great but would have been quicker ordering game online and having it posted to me

The problem is that they are attacking the servers directly.

Basically think of the Xbox Live servers as petrol stations (gas stations for our American cousins) on motorways. When you connect to Xbox live you are access your nearest server (though not always) and then being passed on to other servers when you play
games.

Under normal load the servers can handle the traffic, but when a DDOS attack happens it literally floods the servers with junk, and the servers just cant handle it.

Its the same with the petrol stations, under normal load they are ok, but get a story about petrol shortages, and all of a sudden everybody is wanting to buy petrol, and the petrol station cant handle it and everything grinds to a halt.

The annoying thing is that these so call "hackers" justify their actions by saying that Microsoft/Sony etc. should have better security. Problem is though I don't think their is any security that can prevent DDOS attacks.

your right about their being no way to prevent a DDOS attack, except for the entire network to be a closed system, but by doing that you prevent access to the servers for all xbox live members no more signing into your profile and no more multi player and
that just cant happen, people need to understand this is not microsofts fault or sony's for that matter.
