Crackdown IMO, was god-awful because of its gameplay. If it remains like it was, I will avoid it at all costs.

As for Sunset Overdrive, it's STILL NOT DONE!!! I woke up this morning expecting it to be done and for some odd reason, it decided to pause on its own overnight and allow CoD:AW a chance to download. I'm currently waiting for it to finish the last 4%! It's
so aggravating having to wait when I know everyone else is already playing it! Sunset Overdrive Gets GREAT Reviews :(

    Sunset Overdrive Gets GREAT Reviews

I only brought Crackdown up because of the orb/collection discussion but I'm not sure what Crackdown you played.

Crackdown was praised for it's gameplay/multiplayer and it's weakness was it's story, it was reviewed and received better than SO is.

Apparently lots of people expected campaign co-op in SO and are upset it's not there but I knew that before buying it so I can't fault it for that. I think if the professional reviewers had actually played the MP the reviews would have been lower, it's
    boring.

My biggest gripe is still movement. On the rails skateboarding/snowboarding type gameplay just ruins the fun factor. Characters are also a little squishy for my taste considering the type of the game it is, I'd love to be able to melee through a huge pack
of mutants with my cool weapon but unless you're grinding it'll normally mean death ( although the respawns are very cool).

  5. I tend to agree with Randver that collectibles represent a gameplay element that is basically filler. I mean, I get that some people do enjoy the whole scavenger hunt aspect, but there's no denying it's a great way to add the illusion of extra content.

Same with "grinding" levels in Destiny. I enjoyed the game immensely for a time, but then I realized I was repeating way too much familiar ground in the name of "looting". It's fine for those who enjoy that kind of repetition, but I need something a bit
more mentally stimulating from my gameplay.

Still haven't gotten to spend much time in Sunset City as I wanted (probably won't until the weekend) but I love what I've seen so far. For me the controls don't feel sloppy at all, maybe it takes a bit of getting use to (especially coming from Destiny)
but it was smooth for me once I got the hang of it. I really think that's the key because you have to do multiple things at once while constantly staying on the move so it can get overwhelming.

I would guess that most of the high reviews are because the game just screams have relax, have fun and enjoy yourself. People seem to really love that vibe it gives. Way too early on for me to give any kind of score but I'll say this is a good exclusive
    for MS to have.

The Few reviews I've read all tried the MP ( Chaos Squad) part of the game and gave it a good points for fun and the fact it doesn't feel tacked on like many other MP's added to good Single player centric games.

    @Rippen

You may find those reviews to not be accurate. I've got about 6 hrs in Chaos (can't figure out how to get the achievements for Chaos score, it doesn't show your score).

There is absolutely no challenge, it's just button mashing and every mission feels the same. Not what I was expecting at all. I expected more of a co-op campaign with some story to the missions but it definitely feels tacked on. The humor of the SP is non-existent
    in MP.

  10. Granted, I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but then again that's not why I bought it. For me, this game is awesome. I kid you not when I say that I've been playing this game virtually non-stop all day long. At 1st I was upset at the limited amount of
customization, but that quickly sub-sided as I discovered that you can unlock more as you visit new areas and work your way through the story missions. The amount of pop culture references is absolutely astounding - there's tons of it! My favorite is the sign
on the porta-potties across the city that references sea-shells (older peeps will understand)! LOL!

In my opinion this game is an open-world, mission-based Tony Hawk game on steroids, but without the Hawk-man himself. So, if you like either of those kinds of games, then this game is a shoe-in for you. Otherwise, if you don't like those kinds of games then
I would suggest trying something else. Still, the fun-factor is definitely there. IMO, no other game has better freedom of movement than this game - I can grind, bounce, double jump, ground-slam, wall-run (even around corners), air-boost, run on water, and
    so on...

My favorite part was when I found a huge TV screen on the side of the building that had the latest episode of Sunset TV airing - the host was attempting (and failing miserably) to open a champagne bottle to celebrate the release of the game. It was awesome
and I can't wait to see more of those.

I've since changed the appearance of my in-game persona as well. He is now a she of sexy Hispanic origin with light brown eyes with a sky-blue belly shirt and hair that matches and OD-orange road-warrior jacket with a same-colored short skirt and Fizzy boots.
Speaking of which, the character animations for your character are absolutely superb and are better than most other games, which makes traversing the world even more fun to look at, if you catch my meaning. Sunset Overdrive Gets GREAT Reviews :)

As for the world itself, it's absolutely gorgeous and there's plenty to do, from story missions to side-quests, to challenges, to the afore-mentioned multiplayer, and so on... Despite playing the game all day, I still haven't seen the whole thing yet! The
only fault I would have with the landscape is the lack of people. The only people around are either mission-based or are your enemy and have either turned into OD or are called scabs, which are basically just thugs.

As far as the story characters are concerned, Walter and 4Kim (another pop-culture reference there for those of you who are savvy enough to catch it) are my favorite - Walter has a wonderful emotional moment that I won't soon forget and 4Kim looks hot as
    heck AND kicks serious butt!

The missions in this game are epic too! Attempting to get to your apartment, trying not to get killed by an evil megalomoniacal blimp, using a crane to crush the OD and a building, and chasing after a speeding train are just some of the things I've done
so far and I absolutely can't wait to see the rest!

Everyone's going to have their own opinions of this game, but mine is clear: 5/5, 9/10, 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, whatever you want to call it... If you want an absolutely gorgeous and fun game that makes fun of everything, even itself, that will help make you
smile and waste time on the clock, then this game is definitely a MUST-BUY.

    Geek out...

    @GG

I think the Tony Hawk comparison is spot on, basically Tony Hawk with guns. That's also the determining factor if someone will enjoy the game or not.

People that are expecting a Crackdown, Infamous type movement are going to be disappointed. I've been doing mostly MP and the general feeling is the movement. skill scoring is something you'll either love or hate.

For me the movement is killing the game for me. You don't choose how to get to a location, the game does by where objects are placed. Skateboarding and snowboarding games that's fine but in a fantasy world were I can run along walls and bounce a 100 feet
in the air off a car roof I'd expect to be able to run up buildings or run period......the movement speed when not using objects is extremely slow.

People that are thinking they can play this as an open world shooter (Crackdown, Saint's Row, Just Cause, etc) no such luck.....Tony Hawk, Shaun White are much more comfortable in this world than Rico Rodriguez.

I find a lot of gaming articles inaccurate. Must be a challenge if you can't get the score to unlock achievement whether you can see it or not.
