Suggestion to Clean Inactive Gamertags

Hey all,

I usually go by Piptendo, but as you can see, I'm stuck with a nasty "x" in front of my name because a user has created an account named "PipTenDo" with no observable activity whatsoever. The plights I've endured to reclaim the "Piptendo" name from sites
such as Runescape and Twitch have been successful, but I wasn't met with much success when asking Microsoft to clean up this brazenly inactive account so I can claim the name I've held for 10 years.

I've had a long conversation with a man through live tech support, he's been very helpful but wasn't able to resolve the issue, as Microsoft's tools to assist with this kind of thing are very limited (which is very surprising).

I believe it would be well suited to have a service that renames Microsoft accounts with no recorded activity on request (or even limited activity, for example an account created in 2010 who has played maybe 3 different games and then went inactive for 7
years) if a set amount of time after creation, leaving botnets and malicious entities from reserving names for years and years without any activity just to "troll" or to hold in reserve before launching some sort of network-based attack. What do you guys think?

I've struggled to maintain this name for years, and I'm hoping that Microsoft - as the last place I have to reclaim the name - will assist accordingly.

Gamertag Clearout?

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a gamertag clean out (were they clean out all inactive and orignal xbox gamertags). Cause I dont see why they would not do that because microsoft would make tons of money from everyone changing there gamertags
to the old orginal gamertags that everyone wants.

 

Can't change my Gamertag at all..?

Once again an amazing original gamertag is wasted because dream is taken on an inactive spaced version. I just searched it. Its literally sitting there not being used in a spaced version. Please microsoft clean up these inactive spaced gts!!

 

That is completely system controlled and there is nothing anyone in the forums can do to change it.

 

There is already a policy in place. As of 2016, if a person does not sign into their account for 5 years it will be freed up. Keep in mind that the gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be
in use somewhere else.
