SUGGESTION: Random disc check for installed games

If you don't want to swap discs then go digital. Simple. I'm 50/50 physical and digital these days because there are games which aren't keepers.

I often think the solution for installed games not requiring a disc could have been to implement a microchip or metallic strip somewhere near the very inner of the disc, the XB1 could read the chip/strip if the disc was within a certain distance of the console.
Say 5-10 feet. It would mean you could play the game if you owned it without having to insert it into the XB1. Simple!

 

Why not simply adopt the way PC games do things. Include a code in the box.

The consumer gets to have a physical means of installing the game and the single use code means they never have to use the disc again unless they want to.

As for Microsoft they get to take a huge slice out of the used games market under the guise of doing it for consumer convenience.

There was a spam post, made by somebody with zero gamerscore. It was duly reported and deleted (thus proving the report function does indeed get results). Why the spammer chose this thread in particular is equally odd. No matter ^_^

What you would've lost had Microsoft been allowed to get away with their stupid idea.

Your ability to rent games

Your Ability to load games

Your ability to sell games

Your ability to buy used games at a decent price

Your ability to play a game, anytime the servers went down for any length of time

Your government given rights to do with a disc as you please once you own it.

And they ability to buy games cheaper than digital, long after a game has been released

and many other things that are a positive for physical disc.

Pluses for Microsofts way..........................errrrrrr. No getting up to change the disc.. (Thanks microsoft for saving me 30 seconds)

And physical still outstrips digital for new game sales. Check out EA'a quarterly figures for details (And Ubisoft)

 

Old thread but since these forums are devoid of worthy conversation, why not.

Physical media retains its value for ages while digital is like. "Buying a Pig in a poke."

Mr. Fun person is back. They scrapped it because the internet infrastructure is unreliable and not everyone lives in a big city or has good internet. And they were asking mandatory 24 hour check ins otherwise your console would brick. Coming from the kid
who has Xbox 1 since it launched.
