The technology. Installing games on a PC off of a disc for over 20 years doesn't require the disc to be in the machine to run it. The DRM is in the program and machine registry to prove the license, along with online sign-on if required (e.g., GTA 5). I

Do you subscribe to Game Pass? It was recently removed, so it is possible that now that it is no longer on the service, you need to have the disc in to validate your purchase.

The way around it would be to purcahse the title digitally, and would no longer require that the disc be inserted.

I used the disc still now working but for gta5 and my disc is stuck and i tried the paper clip thing to push it out and it did not work
