Subwoofer only working with some apps

Hey everyone,

I recently added a receiver + surround speakers to my setup and for the most part it's working great but it doesn't seem to work with some apps on the XBO, most specifically Groove. I've tried switching the to bitstream out as I'd seen that as a potential
fix but so far nothing has helped. Any ideas?

Sound problems

Hi,

I got a problem with sound on some apps, like yuotube. I have a surround system that my xbox one is linked up to, that say the hdmi cabel goes into the reciver and then up to the TV. The settings is set to bitsound, and it shows dts hd sound on my reciver And
on some apps like youtube my subwoofer dont work, but on like fifa16 the subwoofer works.

 

Certain Apps Don't Support .1 Audio Support (Subwoofer)

I recently purchased a Sony str-dn840 audio receiver along with front speakers and a subwoofer. The FR/FL speakers work fine with all applications, and I've had no problems whatsoever in that area.

The subwoofer is a BIC PL-200 powered subwoofer. It works fine for most uses thus far. I've tested it directly with the receiver via a bluetooth connection to my phone. I've also watched movies on xbox video and the xbox netflix app. In both cases, movies
played fine with subwoofer output.

However, when I use several other apps, the subwoofer has no output - this is without changing any settings on the receiver compared to other applications that I mentioned above which work fine. The xbox apps specifically that DO NOT work with the subwoofer
are as follows: youtube, vimeo, and the IE browser app (I tried pandora via the IE app). I have yet to try it with the HBO go app

I've searched google and these forums and found nothing related, so anything on this topic would be helpful at this point.

 

Ok, I figured it out. It turned out I had my speakers assigned incorrectly on my receiver. The front speakers were shown as "Large" instead of "Small". Once I switched that the bass/sub kicked in immediately. I'm using a Sony STR-DH550 w/ 5.1 speakers in
case this might help anyone else.

This fixed the issue with both Groove and Youtube, which were the ones giving me trouble.

 

The incorrect setting of "Large" would have affected everything, The "Large" setting suggests your speakers can handle all frequencies including low frequencies so the Receiver would send nothing to the subwoofer.
