Subwoofer does not work on Xbox One using 5.1 surround

Hi

I have connected my Xbox One to my 5.1 surround system with an optical Cable. I get no subwoofer sound when playing games. When playing Blue Rays it works great.

I noticed yesterday that the subwoofer worked in the intro of the game (Fifa15) and then it is like it is disconnected... I have choosen DTS and bitstream out. I have to use optical since my reciever is old

Simulated Atmos from XBOX One S?

No, the Xbox One S does not simulate ATMOS from a 5.1 source.

However, since the Xbox One can run multiple sound applications at any given time (for example you run an Atmos enabled game, while having a music app running in the background), the console will ALWAYS output an ATMOS signal to your receiver, since the
game sound is in spatial surround.

Into that ATMOS spatial surround sound track, the stereo music track will be mixed in. But since the music track does not have surround or height information in it's stereo signal, you won't get the music in ATMOS spatial surround, even if your receiver
shows ATMOS coming in.

If you watch a 5.1 video in VUDU, the Xbox will distribute the 5.1 sound information to the front, center, back surround and subwoofer channels for the ATMOS signal, and your ceiling speakers for example won't get sound.

So even if your receiver shows ATMOS, and you have twenty speakers mounted in your home cinema, only the standard 5.1 speakers will produce sound, if you watch a 5.1 sound source.

 

earforce x42 or razer chimaera 5.1?

First Question:

I own a Razer Chimaera 5.1 and I am very happy with it, it's both has quality audio and is comfortable to wear.The voice can get muzzled if the game audio is set too high, which you have to correct with the ingame audio settings as the headset only has buttons
for voice and general volume.



Second Question:

With an actual surround sound set 5.1/7.1 are the amount of speakers+subwoofer which it consists of. With surround sound headsets 5.1/7.1 are percieved sound directions+subwoofer. I would recommend using only 5.1 as that is how audio of Xbox 360 games are
designed to use.

 

If you have an old receiver I would probably set the console to Dolby Digital, I'd imagine that will work fine.

 

Hi, yes my reciever is some years old but it can handle both dts and dd, it shows dd or dts depending on what I choose on the Xbox and the subwoofer works in the intro but not when the game starts

 

It could be that the games themselves don't support DTS. Pretty much everything on the planet supports Dolby Digital, so that is usually the best option. I would at least try setting the console to Dolby first to see if that's what's causing the problem.

 

I have the same issue with the Sony DA2400ES. No subwoofer sound from the Xbox One. Connected via HDMI. OS version 6.2.11797.0

 

I have the same issue with Sony STR-DG720. Optical input with 5.1 either DD or DTS and the subwoofer will not work with GTA V. Seems to work with other games just fine. Not sure what the issue is.

 

I would second the suggestions by Boris and Shadow Walker - I also have a system which receives up to 7.1 and is compatible with both DTS and Dolby, however whenever I set to DTS out on the Xbox, I have issues. Setting to Dolby Digital works perfectly.

A lot of it has to do with the coding of the game for specific companies - Timmay's example of GTA V is a good example - if only that game has issues, it's likely game-specific. On my last surround sound system, different things like voice were programmed
on the center channel, while others weren't, which often played havoc with the ability to hear voice in specific games. Very weird.
