  1. Subtitle Support in Xbox One Media Player App

I read through the support article on the support of MKV files on the Xbox One .. I understand it states that subtitles will not render, but features will be implemented based on customer use scenarios.

I can say .. especially as an Anime fan .. that subtitle support in the MKV format is a must. Is there a roadmap to add this support? Is there a work around so I can play my subbed Anime on my Xbox one today?

    :)

Does Xbox One Play MKV Video Files?

This is an old thread, very glad MS proved me wrong on this one. The media capabilities used to be a complete mess, now I havn't had a media file crash in over 4 months.

The native support for MKV is fantastic, it plays most formats within this container (forget about subtitles that aren't hardcoded though), even better than some .avi files - I use PLEX as a remote media server, although the media player app can also run
MKVs off a USB drive or from your networked media player library.

Not sure about DVD/BR support, in my experience the media player app is best utilised running over a network.

    Media Player

Plex Media server has a Mac version, and works great for me (Even though I am using the windows version of the program. This sets up a simple DNLA server without needing Windows Media Player. Plus it will create a nice and handy view for your digital movies
including; Movie Poster, Actors, Directors, Rating, etc.

You don't need to use the Plex App on the Xbox one either, just use the Media Player app. The only caveat, is you can't use subtitles, doesn't matter if it's a separate .SRT file, or an .MKV file with subtitles encased in it.

Xbox One Media Player Not Showing Subtitles When Enabled

    Hello!

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the forums with this situation. I understand you're having trouble playing subtitles from a MKV file that you have loaded from external storage to your Xbox Console is that correct? The compatibility of the file would
need to be checked from its source. The Xbox One Media Player App may require a different File type for the subtitles to be detected. If you could try different formats you might be able to find the correct one to display from the App.
