Subnautica (Xbox Play Anywhere) – Xbox console save game not syncing with Xbox Windows PC...

Thanks for contacting the Xbox Forums! I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your Subnautica data not cross-saving.

Subnautica is a Play Anywhere title, yes. That means that you purchase the game once and you can play it on any platform rather than having to purchase the game for every platform that you want to play on. A Play Anywhere title, however, does not guarantee that your data will cross-save. That feature is ultimately decided by the studio that made the game.

At this time, Subnautica does not support cross-platform saves. Here is the official message from a Subnautica moderator on their forums:

"We understand that there is some confusion because we do not currently support cross platform saves between Xbox and PC, but we're looking at adding that feature. In the meantime, we're going to find a way to improve our messaging on the Windows Store to indicate which parts of Play Anywhere we do support.

Right now, if you purchase Subnautica from the Microsoft Store, you can play on Xbox and PC with just that one purchase. Achievements associated with your gamer tag should also move across platforms."

The Xbox Play Anywhere games are listed here and Subnautica aren't in:

Yet on the game's store page it is listed as an 'XBOX Play Anywhere' game...

Also under capabilities it includes: 'Xbox Live cloud saves'.

when loading a play anywhere game on either pc or xbox it will sync the save, if this was cancelled which is easy to do it will not sync and will upload a new save, there is no way to recover an overwritten save.

They must have recently removed it from the play anywhere list, because I checked just recently and it was listed. Also I bought the game for Xbox and was able to install the game not even a week ago on my PC via the windows store without re buying the
game. I have achievements that I unlocked today, Dec 23rd, while playing on PC show up on my Xbox profile, as it asked me to log into my live account on PC. Also When I try and play on PC and my Xbox at the same time I get the, "You are already playing this
game somewhere else" message, so it seems the only thing that seems to not be functioning is the save games being transferred between the 2 platforms which is odd.

Sadly, no. I tagged Xbox Support, Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft Store, and belatedly Subnautica in my tweet, and not a single person or company said a damned thing. Xbox Support alone is usually better about responding than that. I could try sending one of them
a direct message, I suppose... In fact, I think I will. Maybe I'll try both Subnautica Help (not sure if it's official, but it's worth a try) and Xbox Support.

I think that you're probably right about the version difference though. It seems that Subnautica: Below Zero is not yet released on consoles, so that could cause some save file problems, unless it is a completely separate game, and not a DLC expansion.
