Submerged: Very disappointed

Like Pneuma: Breath of Life, this game is a case of an indie developer/publisher overestimating the value of their game. This game has some attractiveness in the environment, but up close the textures are bland and many surfaces are flat. It's clearly amateurish.
The attractiveness of this game doesn't make up for the shallow gameplay. Gameplay is tedious and boring and very repetitive. It entails climbing puzzles and after doing three buildings the only progress that I'm seeing is that the climbing just gets longer
each time. Making the climbing worse is the character's will to overshoot, say going down two ledges when I only meant to go down one. But the worst thing about this game is how poorly it performs on Xbox One: The frames-per-second rate is very low and your
lead character has a floaty walk which seems like it is slowed down. So you're waiting and waiting to go from A to B... And there is no run.

One of the interesting aspects that breaks up my boredom with the game is the use of a telescope. Using this you can spot creatures (less than a dozen of them) and other locations and objects that you will eventually need to reach. This reminded me of the
camera photography sidequest action in Beyond Good and Evil. However, this gameplay element is very basic in Submerged: Here, you locate objects and they get marked on your map -- a map which looks cramped and not useful -- but there are never any visual markers
in your main display. The problem with this is that you have to continually consult your map to see if you are tracking near the item that you want. There is a HUD compass with objects appearing on it, but I just don't see why after locating something you
cannot easily see it. This would make the water navigation feel a lot less frustrating.

This game has no depth to it. I recommend waiting for a sale.

I enjoyed the game.

It was different,if short but I knew that before I bought it.

No frame rate issues for me either.

Bit of a dull game to be honest.

Too much good stuff out now to waste your time and money on it to be fair.

 

(Following up) Out of curiosity I continued playing until I reached the end of the story. Indeed, I saw the whole game template in the first 10 minutes. To summarize, it is 10 fetch quests involving navigation by boat, climbing buildings, collecting optional
things, and opening the same-looking chest to find the same-looking package. Then a cutscene takes you back to home base to use the package contents to help your ill brother Taku -- medicine, fly spray, food, etc. You see the same animations play out each
time with only slight variations to at least suggest progression. So if they wanted to make a longer game it could have been 20 fetch quests with 20 building climbing puzzles having 20 chests to open. It's not entirely bad as a game and I could see someone
wanting to play it for a very casual and relaxing experience. The music is nice and you can find some nice visual moments while in the boat, enjoying the day/night cycle and weather conditions.
