Styx, how do I kill a guard?

Hey, I really need help. I purchased Styx game and few minutes into the game, I need to pull a lever to open a door, behind which, there's a guard. After I open it, the guard runs in and kills me every time. I keep pressin X but can't manage to hit him.
Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong?

Slender: The Arrival, you only have a torch and don't kill anything through the game.

Hitman, doing the silent assassin approach is always my favourite way, don't kill anyone except the target and if you need an outfit you do the non-lethal take down and hide the body.

Styx and Dishonoured, you can complete the whole game with killing anyone, granted you can knock out whoever you want in dishonoured, Styx isn't quite the same as you can actually sneak through it without touching anyone, except a few forced kills.

Hey TOOKAMB.. I don't have the game but normally when I am stuck.. I always watch a YouTube Let's Play (walkthrough) and that helps 99.9% of the time.

I use multiple smoke bombs, so they cannot run, they cannot attack, assassinate them all!

I like to annoy a guard so he is chasing me then I run around town getting chased by more and more guards before turning around to fight them. Doing it this way can cause a large fight and should help you get the achievment.
