Stuttery edges/textures when panning camera quickly in some games

    Hi there,

I'm having some weird visual problems in some games (counter strike, master chief collection, mafia remaster, and some others) where panning my camera quickly will make some object textures (particularly edges of walls, or straight lines on other objects) kind of stutter or jitter compared to the rest of the game/camera. Its not FPS or frametime drops, RTSS shows its perfectly fine, and its happening on all of my monitors (known good, worked fine on my last pc). The game still feels like high fps/high refresh rate (240hz) but its visually "laggy". I've tried different HDMI and DP cables, various different refresh rates (all the way from 60hz to 240hz), different resolutions, completely wiping nvidia drivers with DDU, every combination of vsync on/off freesync on/off fastsync etc. along with capping fps in RTSS and NVCP to various intervals, every monitor setting (fast motion, very fast motion, off), changing mice and mouse polling rates, XMP both on and off, bios update & cmos reset, and even a clean windows install. I've tried every setting I can think of, and I'm just really stumped. PSU is barely a year old and worked fine in my last build that had a higher TDP, and latencymon doesn't show anything out of the ordinary either. Temps are all fine. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys!

    CPU: Ryzen 5 7600x

GPU: Gigabyte 4070 Windforce oc 12gb

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000 (2x16gb)

    PSU: Corsair RM750

OS Drive (I've tried games on multiple drives): Samsung 980 Evo pro 1tb.

Perhaps I don't have more detailed insights about a specific setting on the game, I'll keep the thread open so anyone with ideas can post their thoughts here

Stuttery edges/textures when panning camera quickly in some games

    Hi there,

That's why this problem is so confusing to me, I've ran frametime graphs in multiple games with RTSS and its always solid at the correct intervals at a steady 240fps. The game still "feels" input wise exactly like it should at 240fps-240hz, but there are visual artifacts that appear as if they aren't. Its also not tearing, its happening to specific objects or textures within the game. It looks like specific objects in the game are moving at a lower refresh rate than the game surrounding it, and I've tried every vsync/freesync combo possible.

    Hello, Jimbo7SSBM

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you’re experiencing stuttering or jittering in some games when panning the camera quickly. This can indeed be a frustrating issue. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. Inconsistent Frame Times: This happens when frame times are inconsistent. You can download a game monitor your frame times. It should be around 16ms for 60fps, 8ms for 120fps and so on. If you see this value fluctuating a lot, it can cause weird stutters like you described.
    2. Microstutter: One way of combating micro stutter is to disable vsync, but that has its own drawbacks. Now when a frame is ready from the engine, it will show up on your display. The problem now is that this can lead to tearing —where the next frame arrives in the middle of a screen update.
    3. Game Settings: You could also try adjusting some game settings:
      • Lower screen resolution setting
      • Toggle VSync or FreeSync
      • Decrease anti-aliasing
      • Drop texture filtering
      • Reduce texture quality
Remember, every system is unique and what works for one might not work for another. It’s all about finding the right balance for your specific hardware configuration. Good luck!

I can see where you're going. Being able to pan the camera quickly could be big.

Shimmering textures and shadows in games is how I can describe it. In some places, some texture starts blinking, or disappears at a certain camera angle
