Stuck trying to update, always fails giving error code - can't get out of this loop

I've had the xbox (old style white version) for a good few years (never updated it), and now getting it set up again. My son bought the Lego Jurassic world game, so inserted it, it asked to make an update and I selected yes. No matter what I do now when
I turn on the machine it always goes straight into trying to make the update, which always fails and gives the error code 1A3D - 4099 - B800 - 0503 - C000 - 0221

Network cable was not connected.

I took the following steps:

-Turned on the xbox

-Inserted the game

-Was prompted to do an update

-Selected Yes

-Update started

-Once progess bar had reached 100% it stopped and showed error screen with code 1A3D - 4099 - B800 - 0503 - C000 - 0221

-I've switched off and on many times, each time it starts doing the update again

-CD was stuck so removed using the instructions on your site - did not have any effect. As soon as switched console on it goes into the update, with same error code

-hard drive removed and switched on > same response

-downloaded latest update > put onto usb stick (fat32) > inserted into front usb port > switched on > same response

- downloaded specific update related to the error code (binary 16537, from hex 4099) > onto usb > switched on > same response

-Tried switching on the console with the controller, waiting for sync but never happens (wanted to try the Y and Right Trigger)

So, every time I switch the console on it goes straight into the update, which always fails. There's no chance to get to a menu and manually apply an update. How do I get out of this continual loop?

Preview dash update loop

I am in the Xbox preview and my Xbox is set to auto update. It is currently stuck in an update loop and giving error E101 and E102.

I have tried hard resetting which fails, I have tried offline update OSU1, OSU2 and OSU3 along with the offline factory reset all of which fails.

Hi, according to the following link the xbox may have been modified or tampered with and as such can never be updated again as the xbox is banned from xbox live.

Hi, thanks for your.post and I found this too, which is odd because I've owned the xbox from new and I can categorically say it has not had any modifications whatsoever. In fact it has rarely been connected to xbox live, and probably hasn't had any updates
to it as just used for playing offline.

So I tried this and got the message 'Unable to detect the state of this serial number at this time, please connect this device to Xbox Live'.

Turned the console on, connected the network cable, got the same error message, but also got the same message as above about not being able to detect the serial number. Is it possible to connect to xbox live if I'm stuck in this update loop?

It's a vicious circle, you can't connect to Live until you update and you can't update until you connect to Live.

I really don't know what else to suggest, it does appear that the Xbox has been banned as you can't connect to Live, which is an indicator of a ban. There is no appeal process for console bans either that I am aware of.

Whether Xbox support can look into it I don't know as I'm pretty sure everything is dealt with by the Policy Enforcement Team. The specific section regarding console and account suspensions was closed down and replaced by the case review.

I wouldn't know where to direct you to next to be honest as all things do point to a console ban being enforced.

 

Can you skip the update request at all and get the Xbox onto the dashboard ?

 

I don't know if this is even possible but the only thing I can think is that if the Xbox hasn't been modified/tampered with and never updated that the latest update has detected such an old version of the system software it's assumed there must have been
some modification and banned the Xbox.

I'm clutching at straws with that just it does seem feasible maybe.

Interestingly it says that even if a console is banned it should not stop it working offline. So likely something else is going wrong as I can't get it out of the loop.

 

Maybe it's just a hardware issue. The xbox you have is quite old now and it's just dropping hints it's time to get another newer model.

Hmm just as a thought, try holding down the sync button on the xbox for a while before and after you power the xbox on.
