Stuck on Gamertag Creation Screen

The link you provided along with the 5 steps (https://account.xbox.com/en-us/Profile) worked. While I was previously unable to create a gamertag, this bypassed the issue, allowed me to log into my Xbox account, and further allowed me to customize the gamertag.

You are only offered a free Gamertag change if you stuck with the Gamertag given to you when creating your account for the first time. If you decided during account creation you chose one of your own you wont get a free change and will need to pay the
fee

Managed to get past the gamertag recovery / Password screen, now it's stuck on " Signing in " urghh
