Struggling to create a child account

Hi,

I'm struggling trying to create a child account for my 6yr old son. We have an Xbox 360E. I keep reading the definition of child account, how to change it from child to adult, how to change its privacy, etc. but I can CREATE it.

So far I went to my own Microsoft account, added my son as a Family member. I had to create an email for him, and of course I used his actual birth date.

He only has an offline profile, but I don't want him to log in to Xbox Live with my account. When I tried to log him in with his new email, I get he must be 18 or older.

From what I read, there must be a way to allow him to log in to Xbox Live without using an adults account.

Also, what is a gamertag and what is the difference with an offline account? Is it just a gamer nickname showed onscreen to hide their actual name? it must be linked to an Xbox live account?

Advice on creating sub-account for child

Don't know - found this out with our sons account when trying to add it to xb1 ( I have a thread on this which will be near this one now) and awaiting call back from xblive to see if it can be resolved.

Happened when we had to do something to get his account online for gold and had to use another email address to set up an account to migrate or something or other. I know my hubby was on the phone with them for well over an hour that time to get it sorted - he is cursing about it as he can't believe how complex their systems are - and he used to work for MS and is now a freelance consultant architect/developer/admin for blue chips so is very experienced with computer systems

Are you able to create a new Child Account (again, a dummy account is fine)? That would mean your issue is with making a local profile into a child account, not create child accounts altogether. Let me know, thanks!

 

On the console you can create an offline account for him, but you will not be able to join Live with that account. If you want him to have a Live account, you will have to create his account via the website and then download it to the console.

Gamertags are just the name of your Xbox account (offline or Live). For instance, the one you're posting with is NicoLdB.

 

Hi Smwutches, thank you for replying. I have already created a Hotmail email for him, but when I try to log in to Live with it the Service rejects it, saying he must be 18 or older. Can you point me where should I go to create his account?

Go to the top right of this page and click on your gamertag, then sign out. Once the page reloads, click Sign In and instead of signing into your account, there is an option underneath the login information to create an account. Follow that link and create
an account for him. Once he has an account, you can download it to the console -
