    Strong Request for Local Play Support for Xbox Library on Windows


    Dear Xbox Team,

    I am a passionate Xbox player living in Japan. Over the years, I’ve built a valuable game library through many purchases and have continued to support the Xbox platform with enthusiasm.

    However, I am deeply concerned by Microsoft’s recent direction—raising console prices, reducing exclusive titles, and shifting heavily toward cloud-based services. My biggest concern is the possibility that our Xbox game library may eventually become cloud-only, eliminating access to local play. If that happens, it no longer feels like ownership—it’s merely a temporary license.

    Games we purchased should remain playable locally. I strongly request that Microsoft expands support for Xbox library titles to run natively on Windows without relying on cloud services. This would preserve player trust and ensure our purchases remain accessible and meaningful.

    As a loyal fan in Japan, I sincerely hope to continue supporting Xbox for many years to come. Thank you for your consideration.

    This is a great thread. I am a strong supporter of a digital only library and I think the "Cloud" is the way to go for the future of the console.

    and just to clarify, this is the backwards compatible Red Dead Redemption 1 for the Xbox 360 that you are playing?

    if it isn't working because of damage to the disc (scratches, etc) see if your local library has a disc cleaning service. if the library doesn't then try a local video game shop as they sometimes have a disc cleaning service (especially if they buy 2nd hand

    Hey Oscar, this would be great if it worked, but for me it does not. I have similar music library situation I was able to listen to fine with old Windows XP PC on the xbox system music player. Now with Windows 8, I cannot stream any music onto my xbox through
    the system music player or xbox music app. The PC is found as a source but but everything comes up as blank or missing from the xbox. I tried xbox music and it will not see my files on Windows 8 either. I have placed all files saved on local PC's hard drive
    into the Windows 8 MyMusic library and all the files play fine in Windows 8's music player, just not the xbox streaming.

    Does anyone know how or if you are able to play your existing music files saved on your Windows 8 computer on your xbox?? will Microsoft give an answer or solution date with future updates?

    File Sharing

    The best way to share files is through Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. I personally set up a library on Windows Media Player and then sync it to my network, which my Xbox 360 is connected to. This way it will play only what is in your library
    and not just the C: folder.
