    Strict, yet not Strict?


    First off. I want to say I have seen the. "How To: Open NAT to resolve multiplayer and party problems." Yet. I don't seem to have that problem, or I have unique situation (or so I believe.)

    I have a weird problem, actually I guess it could be called interesting, or slightly annoying. Every time I go on MW2, or Halo Reach I get told I have a strict NAT type. There are times I could have a chance to befriend a player, yet can't join their party
    or game. I have looked "How to open my NAT." Everyone talks about getting a little yellow warning sign when they test their connection. I don't. I have tried Portforward. I can't get that to work, and I don't have the $40 to have their software do it for me.
    I have gone to youtube, and same problem. Just curious if anyone has a solution to my problem? I have been getting a service alert lately when I do test. I guess that is towards Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

    I apolgize, if this is not as unqiue or whatever as I am lead to believe. This is just incredibly fustrating. I don't know if I have an open NAT or strict.

    Open NAT?

    My Nat type is strict as well yet on 360 its open I'm on virgin media

    Sorry that did not help.

    This is sounding more like a hardware problem. But I am not going to cross out just yet.

    What is your Upload/Download, and NAT is Strict, Moderate, or Open?

    If you have not had luck with port forwarding i can walk you through it, its fairly easy and it will save you $40.

    I have had issues like yours, when one game said i had a Strict NAT, i have noticed that my NAT type seems to change depending on how many people are on my network.

    what i need from you is:

    -What type of router do you have.

    -Your xbox's IP (see the guide at the bottom of the post)

    -Your ISP (Internet service provider)

    Get you xbox ip:

    1) Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.

    2) Select Network Settings.

    3) Select Wired Network/Wireless Network if you are prompted to do so.

    3) Select Configure Network.

    Constantly Disconnecting From Xbox Live at College for No Reason

    I forgot to mention that. I live in a dorm so I just plug straight into an ethernet port in my wall, so I don't have a modem or router. I have a strict NAT and it's been strict since the semester started. I actually don't remember if my NAT was always strict,
    but I'm almost certain it's usually been moderate. The strange thing about it is that my ping and internet speeds are much better this semester than they ever have been, yet my NAT type is strict and I have the frequent disconnections.

    You need to open your NAT settings, they are either strict or moderate. If they are either strict or moderate you cannot connect to anyone unless they have open settings.
