    Strict Nat

It is as you said a double Nat I called my ISP and was on the phone for about an hour and a half they finally ended up telling me then I would have to pay $50 for a static IP From them is there any other way to fix the problem without paying the money

By static IP, they must mean a static public IP. Other than switching from your WISP to a cable/DSL ISP (these provide a public IP--doesn't have to be static), there is probably not much you can do to get open NAT with your setup. Again, you can try connecting
the Xbox One directly to the ethernet cable from your antenna and hope that your WISP has UPnP enabled on whatever NAT router it is running, but that is very unlikely.

  4. Strict Nat

Hi! I have a problem that may or may not be something similar. I have the XboxOne and it says strict Nat as well. I created a static IP for the One, and forwarded the ports on my netgear router to the IP of my xbox. still strict NAT. Each port even detects
my xbox, I know this because when I go to edit the ports, my xbox one shows up with its IP address.

I also am running through my schools network though too. I have my netgear router plugged into the ethernet cable wall outlet. The dorms all run from the same connection. I have used my xbox 360 here and it worked, but at the time I ran it through ethernet
cable cord. is the school's network influencing my ports? thats the only thing I can think of.

I also noticed there are two IP addresses that show up on the netgear admin site. My router information's IP address, and another category that says, Internet Port. maybe there is something there? I don't know, very confusing

Does the Internet IP listed in your Netgear differ from the one reported by
    http://www.tracemyip.org?
If so (which is likely given your shared Internet), then you have a double NAT situation.

You can try wiring your Xbox directly to your wall outlet in hopes that the school's NAT router (upstream of yours) supports UPnP, which is unlikely. Otherwise, to get open NAT, you will need cooperation from the network administrators of your school network
to forward ports or enable UPnP on the school's NAT router, again unlikely.

  8. Strict Nat

I've read things on the internet about something called DMZ... it can be used to get open NAT. is that reliable? ever heard of it? is it safe on a school campus?

Forwarding ports on your router--whether via DMZ, UPnP, manual forwards, etc.--simply will not get you open NAT in a double NAT situation. The reason is that the upstream, Internet-facing NAT router run by your school (and, thus, outside your control) is
almost certainly not configured to forward those ports through to your own NAT router. Though an over simplification, think of a NAT router as a wall that allows your Xbox to see (communicate) out through it to the Internet but prevents any devices outside
the wall (i.e. on the Internet) from seeing in through the wall to your Xbox. When you forward ports (again, this includes DMZ etc.) on a NAT router, you are essentially punching holes through the wall so that your Xbox can be seen from the outside (placing
the Xbox in the DMZ essentially removes the wall as to it), which is what is needed for open NAT.

Your problem is that your Xbox has TWO such walls between it and the Internet--the inner wall (closest to your Xbox) is your own Netgear NAT router and the outer wall is the school's NAT router. No matter how many holes you punch through your inner wall
(or even if you tear it down using DMZ), outside devices (i.e. on the Internet) will not be able to see your Xbox because of the school's outer wall, which only your school's IT folks can punch holes through. Again, this is a gross oversimplification but
hopefully this helps you understand why double NAT makes port forwarding on your own NAT router alone (i.e. not also on the upstream NAT router) ineffective.

    Hey there!

Okay, it may be down to your NAT Type being strict or moderate. Have a look at the

    Nat Type Strict (Or Moderate)
