Strict NAT router DLINK DIR-850L

Hey guys,

So I'm having a some what annoying time trying to achieve an open NAT. I have done, what I believe is forwarded the ports that need to be forwarded. I have done a DHCP Reservation and assigned a static ip to my XBOX while using the wireless MAC. The only way
i seem to be able to get an OPEN NAT is by putting the xbox in DMZ mode. However, I can only do this for one xbox so thats no good. Also when I am in DMZ mode, sometimes it even bounces back to STRICT. The Test multiplayer connection Fails everytime saying
Unable to finish multiplayer tests, although I am in DMZ with an open NAT.

This isnt making sens to me. I would really like to achieve an open NAT without being in DMZ mode since I can only put one IP at a time into DMZ.

When i go and select admit and leave the password blank it says invalid password..i can go under user instead should i just do that?

the Problem is: if you have more xboxes than 1 you only can use UPnP - this is the only way I know how it´s possible t get open NAT for multiple xboxes.

Be sure you run the latest Firmware for your Router and then enable UPnP and disable all Port Forwarding or DMZ. If UPnP is not secure enough for you then:

If you want to try Port Forwarding with 2 xboxes (not more) some people say you have to Port Forward Port 3074 TCP AND UDP to xbox 1 (static IP Adress) and the Port 3075 TCP AND UDP to the second xbox (also static IP Adress). It seems that xbox live uses
Port 3074 and if this Port can´t be used they use 3075. NO other Port should be Forwarded !

 

Okay, thank you i will give that a shot. I don't use 2 xbox's all the time, but my buddy brings his over quite often.

Also, should I not bother opening the other ports that are suggested in the microsoft support files? I just ask because you speak of ports 3074, and 3075 while saying no other ports should be forwarded. Thank you so much for your time, I will have to give
it a shot after work!

 

No, if you forward ports an your friend brings his xbox one also - the it creates Problems.

The best would be to enable UPnP an then you should not have any Problems again. Be sure you run the latest Firmware for your router. Even if you play alone

So I should disable the ports I opened, disable dmz mode and enable upnp?

I think upnp is enabled but I have always had Xbox in dmz mode as well.

 

Alrighty, so did a factory reset on my router. Has the current firmware. No ports opened, no DMZ mode. UPNP Is enabled.

When I turn on my xbox it says the nat is STRICT. When I run the Test Multiplayer Connection, its says everything is good. I push LB+RB+LT+RT to bring up the detailed network page. Once it loads, it says "Your network is behind a cone NAT" .... is this not
an open NAT?

 

Update, no settings have changed.

Have strict nat again, detailed nat is "your network is behind a port preserving port symmetric nat.

 

your NAT is strict WITH UPnP enabled? Then I would write the D-Link Support.

If I see your Screenshots you use Port Trigger AND Port Forward? Thats not Possible !

You can try: Disable UPnP and Port Forward ONLY Port TCP/UDP 3074 to your xbox. The other Ports are only outbound - they don´t need to be forwarded. Port 80 is http and port 53 is DNS. They are not needed incoming.

Then restart your router and your xbox and see if you now get an open NAT. If yes - and your friend comes over you have to give him a static IP and Forward Port 3075 TCP/UDP. This Port is used if Port 3074 can´t be used.

make sure your xbox ip is 192.168.0.101 like in the screenshots. You should set up a DHCP Reservation so your xbox gets always the same IP

 

Well I did all that, still no luck.

Went out and bought a netgear nighthawk r7000 and achieved and open port in minutes.

Incase it helps anyone, my router Setup is as follies:

DHCP reservation for Xbox

Nat filtering set to open

UPNP enabled

On the console I cleared alternat macs, restarted and had open nat ever since. I think I can say that I'm done with dlink.

It´s very fast - NAT filtering not set - but Port trigger to 3074 TCP/UDP thats all

While we are on the topic is there anything I should know? If my buddy brings his xbox over, I should just assign it a static ip through dhcp reservation and that should be it?

Also, I did notice that my NAT was strict again last night. However I feel it is the Xbox , not the router... Once I clear alternate Mac address on the Xbox it restarts with open nat... Anyone know what that's about?

 

***.. I spoke too soon. Back to strict Nat and my little trick for clearing alternate Mac is no longer working..

 

then - disable port Forward and Port triggers - only enable UPnP. On this Router it works - even if your friend comes over. You can connect him without Static IP.

If you use UPnP you can also disable the reservation for your xbox.

Make sure you run the latest firmware - somes days ago there was a new firmware for this router
