Strict NAT problem.

Hi, I am having a problem getting my NAT type open. I have tried opening all the ports and setting a static IP address but not having any luck. I have been told that I have to have a public IP address. It makes no sense to me why Microsoft would make something
that requires a public IP address. I have a Netgear WNDR3400v2 router. Can anybody verify if I have to have public IP address? Is there any way to get my NAT open without a public IP address? Thanks

Dedicated servers? Then why the lag and connection advantages?

Things like crappy hardware and strict NAT types are a person's own problem. Server can't fix a shit connection.

No your router itself should have a public IP address.

But your xbox wont. It will have a private IP address. It is usually something like 192.168.x.x

Just to make sure you are not using a network in a university or college are you?

Anyway there is a forum section dedicated to your router.

You might want to check it out to see if there is anything there that can help you get the NAT open.

state is MS

modem is Motorola 3360

router is Netgear wndr3400v2

only 1 xbox one console connected

currently wireless but have tried both

I have tried setting a static IP address and opening the required ports with no luck.

UPnP is turned on

It shows strict NAT

ISP is AT&T

The first thing you'll have to do is configure your modem to be in Bridge mode this will allow your Router to be the primary device to configure.

Motorola - 3360

Login Information

Gateway - 192.168.1.254

Username - admin

Password - password

The router will then prompt for a "Modem Access Code". That code can be found on a label attached to the Gateway/Modem.

Bridging Guide

Open a web browser.

Log into the router by entering 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of the Internet browser.

The router will then prompt for a "Modem Access Code". That code can be found on a label attached to the Gateway/Modem.

Click on Advanced.

Click on PPP Location.

Select on "PPP is on the Computer" and select Save

Changes.

It is important that the gateway restarts after this

step. If not, restart manually.

IP Passthrough

Open a web browser.

Log into the router by entering 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of the Internet browser.

The router will then prompt for a "Modem Access Code". That code can be found on a label attached to the Gateway/Modem.

Select Advanced from the menu on the left.

Click Connection Configuration.

In the section near the bottom of the page labeled "Home Network Configuration" select "Yes, Use Public IP Address".

Select save changes.

Ensure the device restarts.

After that you'll have to configure your router, the easiest way to get an open NAT and keep it open is to put your Xbox One in DMZ mode

Login Information

Gateway - 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net

Username - admin

Password - password

DMZ

Login to router by entering
http://routerlogin.net in to the address bar or by entering the default gateway IP address.

The router will then prompt you to enter the user name and password the default user name and password are: "admin", "password".

From the menu on the left under the advanced section select WAN Setup.

Check the box next to Default DMZ Server.

Enter the IP address assigned to the Xbox console you wish to DMZ.

ok, I tried to bridge the modem and it caused my internet to stop working completely. I had to reset the modem and then reconfigure the network to make the internet work again. Im not very knowledgeable with computers and routers.

You might have to contact your ISP and explain the situation that you want to put your modem into bridge mode so you can configure your internet through your router. They should be able to help you or possibly even do it for you from their end depending
on their setup

i have strict Nat type but most of my friends have strict Nat type and they play online without any problem

As mentioned above it is most likely a NAT problem, i assume your NAT is Moderate or Strict. It needs to be set to Open to get the best chance of connecting to everyone.

strict NAT is due to ports not forwarded correctly or put xbox into DMZ but its unlikely you have this problem cause of Strict NAT as I have OPEN NAT and have this problem and as said it was working fine before the launch.

strict nat has always caused problems if you had opened nat for 360 what about x1 caused them it to become strict automatically
