  1. Strict NAT Issues. Please Help

    Hey all,

So I just updated my home network and upgraded to an xbox one and want to get set up for some xbox live this summer. My issue is my NAT is strict and I cannot figure out how to fix this. I have tried a number of things such as clearing the MAC address, making
my xbox IP address static, enabling UPnP feature on my router, tried port forwarding to ports 53, 80, 88, 500, 3704, 3544, & 4500. Plugging ethernet directly into Modem, and placing my xbox's static ip address in DMZ zone.

My home network set-up is as follows

Internet: Cable Broadband. Provided by Lumos. Contracted use through my apartment complex (in other words I troubleshoot with apartment not ISP).

    Download speed: 10Mbps

    Upload speed: 1.3 Mbps

    Latency 67

    Modem: **** SURFboard SB6141

    Router: TRENDnet TEW 812dru

When I run multiplayer connection test, it tells me there is trouble receiving the Teredo IP address. I tried restarting the router and modem multiple times. No luck. I pressed the bumpers and triggers and the xbox one detailed NAT information reads "Your
network is behind a firewall." As mentioned above, I tried putting my xbox into the DMZ but it still reports that NAT information. I'm beginning to wonder if my ISP has only given me a Private IP but not sure how to tell for sure if that's it.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated cause I'm getting at my wits end with this. :/

    :)

  4. Strict NAT Issues. Please Help

if you plug directly into the arris MODEM (not the trendnet) and restart the modem and xbox and still have strict NAT then its your isp or whatever device the apartment complex has....most likely , private ip...

  5. I plugged it into the Modem and restarted everything and cleared the MAC. It is still reporting that my NAT is behind a firewall. I am gonna go out on a limb and guess this is a problem related to my ISP assigning me a private IP address?

  6. I found this if you want to check for sure.....

If you want to check if your ISP is putting you behind his own NAT, browse to your router's configuration. Find the router's WAN IP address (check the router documentation again, if in doubt). Make a note of that WAN-IP address, and then browse to a page
that reads your public IP address (simply Bing for "what is my ip address" or go here).

If the IP address shown on the website is different to the WAN-IP in your home router, you have a double NAT. Either your Internet Provider puts you behind a NAT, or your Modem is also a NAT device.

  7. When I do the google search it gives me a different number than my router shows under WAN IP. So I am guessing that must be why I can't shake the strict NAT. :/ So does that mean it's a hopeless cause trying to get it open? How would I determine if the problem
is my modem and not the ISP?

  8. Strict NAT Issues. Please Help

The IP Address that comes up for my WAN IP on the Trendnet router is 10.X.X.X

  9. that is in the private ip range , your only hope I believe is to call the isp and see if you can get a public ip address....

  10. I was wondering this morning if it may be because of the modem though and if I should try putting it in "bridge mode" like I have heard other people talking about. When I search for my IP online its like: 67.XXX.XXX.XXX. I'm guessing that's a public IP so
then I just have to figure out where it's being made a private IP via NAT, right?

  11. I'm not sure , not that familiar with apt setups to be honest, but if you bridge the modem then only one port on the back is active , not sure how that effects the rest of the building...

If it is a modem only device then it will not have routing capabilities, however, if it is a combo device (modem/router in one) then yes it will need to be in bridge mode, meaning that all routing capabilities of the device will have to be disabled.

Yes that is a public IP address and you are correct.

    Strict NAT Issues. Please Help

When your connected to the modem/router combo if your on a windows computer press and hold the 'windows key' and the press the letter r on your keyboard. This should open a run window. Type 'cmd' then click open. This will open command prompt. In that window
type 'ipconfig' youll see a bunch of info. Under where it says 'local area connection (or it might say 'ethernet adapter local area connection') look for the 'default gateway'. THAT is you modem/routers internal ip address. Typing that number into your web
browser will open the modem/routers configuration page to get to its settings. Hopefully this helps

  14. Then if my Arris SB6141 is only a modem then there is no bridge mode configuration (I know it's not a gateway. No routing capabilities). Then my guess is it must be my ISP performing NAT before it reaches my wireless router because the WAN IP on my Trendnet
router is a private IP address (10.XX.XX.XX) but my IP address in Google reads public (67.XXX.XXX.XXX).

I'll try communicating with my ISP about obtaining a public address and see what happens. :/ I don't have a good feeling about getting this resolved though.

  15. Found out that our apartment complex will send out IT to establish a static IP address for gaming. I am going to assume that is the same thing as assigning a public IP address but I gotta do some research first. Anyone familiar with that?
