  1. Streaming internet video through System Video Player app on XBOX 360

The System Video Player app on XBOX is capable of streaming media from the local network through DLNA, but I was wondering if there's a way to stream an externally hosted media file through this app by specifying the URL somehow (assuming the video is in
compatible format and doesn't require transcoding)?

I know it's possible to play external video files through the IE app with its HTML5 support, however, I've noticed that it's not optimized for video playback and the experience is terrible (lot of chopping, skipping, freezing, etc).

I'm also aware that I could achieve the same by using certain media server software that acts as an intermediary - retrieving the media from the internet, transcoding if necessary, and then making it available to XBOX 360 through DLNA. However, this means unnecessary
overhead when transcoding is not required and requires media server to be running while the video is being streamed. I'm really looking for a direct path from XBOX System Video Player app to the external media source...

    Is this possible? Thanks!

    :)

  2. Xbox one console continuously accessing the Internet even when idle.

It will do that in normal operation, particularly when it monitors the cloud server. Right now I'm streaming video through my network drive and the internet light is flashing a lot, particularly when the video and movie app is used for streaming.

No iPod compatibility or cd ripping?

Nope, the system doesn't have an open format media player like the 360 did. MS is moving to a more closed format like almost everyone else and putting all their support for video and music into the Xbox Video and Music apps. No more streaming downloads
    through the system.

I don't think you know how the internet works even media servers has to have an app either embeded in the page or an localized app that accepts streams

Your only option is to download the content and use a media server locally yes you can either use a transcoder like super @ or tversity for on the fly transcoding

Yes all consoles work the same way

The only other option is a streaming app like Netflix or crackle
