    Strategy Guides...do you use them?

    Man, I remember when my actions got Garrus killed in ME2. Him being one of my favorite characters, it was devastating. Still, I wouldn't replay the almost 40+ campaign again in order to save him.

  2. ^ haha, well it's a bit different when you lose essentially everyone but yourself and Dr. Chakwas. I didn't have to start completely over, but I had to go back about 20+ hours.

    It's gotta have some attraction right? Artwork, maps, fun facts or whatever stuffed into the margins. But meh, I've never bought one, and recently it does seem ever more pointless. This gen we're moving more toward official digital guides players can access
    via their consoles, during their games, and companion apps for tablets and phones and stuff.

    Then as you said there's a relative horde of websites doing walkthroughs and collectible guides, TA and the like doing achievement guides, YouTube channels doing video guides, and then there's the ever-dubious but kinda reliable gamefaqs. lol {>.>}

    I only use Achievement guides from TA for specific achievements. Other than that I try to figure stuff out on my own.

    I tend to avoid strategy guides. I think part of the fun of a game is discovery. Learning about new places, seeing what happens when you do this or that. I'll use them if I get stuck on something and just can't figure it out. For instance there's a quest
    marker on the map in DA:I that I just can't seem to get to. It looks like it's up on a mountain but I can't figure out how to get up there. So I may look something up on the net to help. I'm not at that point yet, but damned close.

    I just don't see the fun in a game if basically someone else has played the game for you and then told you how to do everything. I can do that making a box of macaroni and cheese with the instructions on the side.

    Well I made it through DA: I without the help of a guide and I came to realize that my decision making is pretty good. I got a decent ending, with the exception of one small thing, but ehh... I can live with it. It did take me 130 hours though, so struggling
    cost me a bit of time.

    I'll use a guide if I am stuck and am beginning to get seriously annoyed with my lack of progress.

    Now I'll always try for a while to get past the 'blockage' myself but in the end I am playing for fun and getting frustrated at a lack of progress isn't fun for me.

    I don't think your choices can screw up the ending that bad in DAI. I made some pretty questionable decisions and everything worked out good for me. I guess I'll find out for sure when I inevitably play through it again.
