Strange recurring problem with not displaying xbox live menus

Hi,

I've been experiencing a strange recurring problem over the last couple of months with the home/dashboard screen not displaying the menus/tabs at the top after connecting to xbox live. The console connects fine both wired and wirelessly to xbox live, but
when I go back to the main home screen, none of the words or menus next to 'Home' show up, such as Community, One Guide, Games, Music etc and the option to connect to xbox live is still there on the right side of the screen.

I can still play games and use apps like BBC iplayer, but cannot access my profile or change any personalization settings. When I got in touch with the support rep they solved the problem temporarily by having me clear the persistent storage and the alternate
mac address, but the problem keeps cropping up every few weeks. I fixed it myself recently but it's come up again today and the rep couldn't offer a permanent solution.

Sorry for the long explanation but I wanted to describe the issue properly. If anyone knows how to fix this permanently I'd appreciate it. The console is five months old.

Strange Problem with Menus/Controller

Hey there! Yeah, definitely detailed From what you've put here, it sounds like the system is acting like the B-button is being pressed constantly, no matter what you do? Here's what I would start with:

• First off, let's make sure that there's no other controllers around that you don't know about (like, if you have a media remote, maybe hanging out under a couch cushion? Not that I've had that happen to me, but I actually have.)
  
• Then let's try re-syncing the controller to the console by pushing the lil button on the top of the controller and also the one on console.
  
• If there's still no love there, I'd give that B-button a few good taps and see if you feel anything sticky in there.

Strange Problem with Menus/Controller

Yesterday I normally started up my Xbox and immediately pressed the guide button on my controller to check my Friends List. When the guide expanded to show my Friends List, it suddenly closed. I tried again with the same result. So then I tried looking at
my Friends List on the Dashboard. When I selected it, it just kicked me back to the Home Slide.

I thought this was just an Xbox Dashboard problem, so I just started playing Minecraft. However, the same thing happened when I tried to select which world I wanted to play on - it just took me back to the Home Screen for Minecraft.

It was as if the B button was being pressed whenever I tried to open something. Therefore, I could not accept party invites, and do anything with the "mini" guide. I was also constantly being thrown back to my game menus. The problem has persisted since
yesterday morning, and has continued to be a problem today (the next day).

Today, the same problem persists and new problems seem to have arisen. While I was playing Minecraft, whenever I tried to use a Crafting Table (which brings up an in-game menu) the screen would freeze very strangely. Everything in the background behind the
menu continued to move so my Xbox did not totally freeze. I also noticed that many things in the menu were being highlighted rapidly as if my controller was broken. Speaking of the controller, it did not respond to any of my button presses, and I either had
to wait for the menu to close at a random time or remove the battery pack from my controller and plug it back in. However, when I tried to continue crafting by accessing the Crafting Table, the whole process started over.

After giving up on Minecraft, I tried to play an older game, Tom Clancy's End War. When the game was finished loading up and reached to title screen, I had to press Start to start the game and to reach the main menu. However, pressing Start on my controller
did not work for a time, which was very frustrating. When the game finally opened to the main menu, I tried to scroll through my options using my D-pad. It didn't work for a few seconds and then it would randomly work (same when I used the Thumbsticks to scroll).
However the problem continued into the next menu, and I could barely change the settings for the game I wanted to play. Also my screen changed weirdly with different colors everywhere (as if my TV was broken) when I opened the Settings Menu. I could still
read everything, but it was very strange and the screen would fix itself when I returned to the previous menu.

I tried restarting my Xbox for the second time and I had to reconnect to Xbox Live to sign into my online profile. However I could not connect and I had to Test Connection. Unfortunately, I could not complete the test for my connection because the first
problem kept returning me to the "Start Test?" Menu and interrupting my test to connect to Xbox Live.

I now cannot play Xbox because something will just not permit me to play. YES I have tried multiple controllers and battery packs with no avail.

I hope I was clear l enough in describing the problems (I know this was very detailed), and I hope someone can help me.

 

network instability was a issue for me. since it TRADED up to shiny new Internet Provider my network has been very good. my dashboard wouldnt show the tabs on the right (deals gold and such) and were just blank. if i signed out and back in the tabs would
refesh and work properly. only had the invisible tabs when my Xbone was turned on.

if its a cache issue for you which is wat it sounds like to me then try this: press and hold the power button on your Xbone for about 5sec till it turns off. this will do a cold restart of the Xbone and clear your cache. in power settings if you have your
Xbone set to "Instant-on" (which is basically stand-by mode) then you will have to do this procedure once a month to clear your cache.

in "energy-saving mode" (*facepalm* really M$? just call it Full Shutdown mode) the Xbone will fully shutdown when you turn it off and AUTO-CLEARS the cache. downside is background downloading is disabled. .

 

I tried the sign out / sign in way and it's worked, for how long I don't know though. I'll keep the cold re-start in mind if the problem comes up again, I've always had the console in energy saving mode. Thanks for your help.

 

you may want to run a network test in network settings. the tabs wont refresh properly if you suffer from high latency aka Ping. my new network has 86ms ping from the old 500+ ping
