Strange cricket-like sound from my Console.

My 500GB console was nearly silent, well you could hear the fan humming if you put your ear right up to it.

I've just recently got the 1TB model, I've noticed the fan is a little louder, maybe because it's new but it still doesn't sound like what's been posted.

Dangerboy said though he's is the same so if it was me I would just carry on as long as the console is working fine, not getting too hot.

Now it's making a strange whirring noise as well as ticking like a cricket.

When I booted up my console yesterday, I noticed a strange buzzing sound, almost like a cricket, coming from my TV area. It took a little while to figure out, but it is coming from my TV speakers when I am on the dashboard. The volume seems to vary, depending
on which part of the dashboard I am on, and goes away as soon as I start a game or Netflix. It's really more of an annoyance than an actual problem, but I'd still like it to go away.

Yeah the X1 is dead silent, during gameplay and while at the homescreen. I'd get it sent in personally.

 

If that's yours in the vid get it replace that's the fan blades rubbing.

 

Mine is very quiet like Lofty though. You have to be close to the unit with your ear up to it. My wife thought I was a psychopath when I complained about the noise lol.

 

is it the console or the power brick?

 

It's normal for it to make some noise. It can't be completely silent unless a person has a hearing issue. If you put your ear to almost any electrical component in your home you are going to hear something. Maybe this is an overreaction? My pc sounds
like there's five toy planes flying around in it. I just ignore it and carry on.

 

if it is the powerbrick.. might be the safety switch for the anti overheating fan. It will "chirp" if the brick gets too hot.. try to clear space around it and not have it pinned against a wall.. as most people usually have it...

 

Mine has that same noise, but I have to put my ear directly up to the unit to hear it. I bought my XBOX One on launch and it has had that noise since day one. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's a common noise.

 

Reminds me of something I read in "Mad Magazine" in the '80's.

Mary had an LTD she drove it for a week

But everywhere that Mary went she heard an awful squeak.

She drove it to a Run By shop a fine mechanic who,

Declared that he could fix the squeak before the week was through.

The week has gone and Mary's broke 900 was the ticket.

He put a new transmission in and then took out the cricket.

- If its not working right then take ti back to the retailer who sold it to you and get them to replace or refund.

 

That brought back some memories. My much older brother passed on his collection of Mad Magazines to me as a child and I got a bit warped by them.

 

Right, just had a real good listen andbi think what you are hearing is maybe the Hdd? I can only just hear it when I put my ear near the X1.

 

Before you consider sending in your Xbox One, make sure you know that they could send you a console in worse condition back, and that they may also wipe your HDD, which means that any games you have installed... Well, you'll be waiting a few hours to be
able to play them again once you get your Xbox One back. Not worth it if you have The Master Chief Collection, as I do, which took me six hours to install. I will not go through that again if I don't have to.

 

Don't you guys need to remove your HDD before sending it off like with the 360? And yeah...if it's running okay despite the noise and you still have time left on your warranty, I would leave it be. You will be getting a refurbished unit in its place that
may not have been cared for.
