Strange controller glitch?

Hello, my controller recently started to act as if both triggers are pressed all the time. Started while playing Halo 5, my character was aiming down sights and shooting constantly and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I thought it was the game at
first but after returning to the dashboard and opening other games or apps I realised it was still going on. This continued even after a console reboot until it eventually sorted itself out until today when it's started again.

Anyone come across this problem before? It isn't a hardware issue from what I can tell, the triggers aren't pysically sticking. Seems to be a software glitch, is there a way to reset the controller firmware and reinstall?

Strange controller issue

@Bimnog - I have several controllers but they all need charging don't they? Having to resync is pain because I have to do it everyday since I charge my controller every night.

A popup asking weather I wanted to "Charge controller" or "Use with this PC" might be helpful. It would therefore be logical for it to pair with the PC and me having to resync with the console when I'm ready to use with the console. Even better would be
to set a default action - charge or use.

@Genesis - I'm using a USB powered external drive so it's BUS powered.

 

Strange controller issue

I'd like an option to choose what I want to do. Surely Microsoft knows people may move their controller between their console and computer.
