Store Download Speeds Slow

Hi, I am having major download speed issues with my Xbox Series X.

Console has the latest update.

When I do a speed test I get an acceptable result of 250Mbps. When I am downloading updates or games the download speed drops from around 7Mbps to 500Kbps or less.

I have tried both wireless and Ethernet connections.

Unplugging all other devices and even following the Microsoft diagnostic advice to the point where I reset the console but saving games/apps data.

Still no good.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have run out of ideas and getting very frustrated.

Hi Lucas.

Thank you for your prompt response.

I followed your instructions and was getting pretty much the same download test results with each port I tried.

When I went back to check my download progress of my game and updates I saw that my usual speed had returned (around 95Mbps) instead of the dial up speeds I was getting when downloading.

Hello, DerrickM71. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

Please go to Settings > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Select manual.

It will ask you to manually fill your primary and secundary DNS IP. Try with these two combinations to see which one performs better:

Primary: 1.1.1.1 / Secundary: 1.0.0.1

Primary: 8.8.8.8 / Secundary: 8.8.4.4

After that, on the same screen, go to Alternate MAC address > Clear > Restart. This will restart your console.

After the restart, go to Network settings again > Advanced settings > Alternate port selection. Try with each one of the ports and see which one gives you a better download and upload speed.

To test your connection (after changing ports and/or DNS), just click on "Test network speed" on your Network settings page.

If you get a chance try downloading something from the store and see if your speeds are ridiculously slow.

I was testing earlier as someone else was having slow speeds... the XBox App, for me, gives me downloads speeds around 10% of my maximum line speed, as opposed to the STore which runs at 80-90%.

Try downloading the game/s from the Store direct and see what speeds you get
