Storage space is not 500 GB, it's only 340 GB

Hi there Xbox folk!

I want to ask something about Xbox One storage space, as you see on the title.

I have bought Xbox One The Halo Master Chief Collection on today. I set up the console and started to change my settings, and download. I have activated 3 games; Halo The Master Chief Collection , Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Batman: Arkham Knight.
I saw total storage space 340 GB in My Games and Apps section. The remaining 160 GB used for what? Is it for system? Why it's so high?

My question: "The Xbox One is equipped with a 500-gigabyte (GB) internal hard drive. After typical format of a 500 GB drive, you get 465 real gigabytes, So user available space will probably be between 400-465 GB". Now with that in mind and considering
the the only 3 games that I have downloaded are 25 - 30 GB (approx 90 gigs), the apps I have barely take up 600 MB:

Now with that in mind, how is it that I only have 310 GB storage space left out of let's just say 450 GB?

Are the demos that I have uninstalled really wiped from the HDD?

Unless you like the game is bundled with whatever bundle you like, I think that the 500 GB is the better value because for a the price of a little bit extra money you can get a lot more extra storage space than 500 GBs

Also, when I eventually buy my 5 TB external HDD (I still have 217 GB in my 500 GB HDD), I am going to make the 500 GB HDD of the console just for OS updates and stuff LOL

Hi denixius,

The space used is for the OS and other system apps. If you find yourself running out of space I would highly recommend using a USB 3.0 external hard drive. I have a 2TB on mine. I install A LOT and I'm still have a ton of space left.

I've used 2. A Western Digital My Passport Ultra, and a Touro 7200 RPM 2 TB. I think I actually get better load times with the 7200 RPM than the stock hard drive in the Xbox.
