Storage options unavailable in XBOX app for PC

    Hello!

I'm trying to get my Xbox App to work. I currently can't install any game because there is no folder where the app will allow me to install any games.

It instructs me to adjust my default game folder , but there is no option in the "Change where this app installs games by default":

However, in my Windows settings, everything is normal (it was all set on C:, I tried changing to E: to see if it would help, but it didn't):

I tried the following procedures so far:

    • Uninstalling / Reinstalling Xbox App.
    • Changing permission / renaming the existing WindowsApps folder in all drives
    • Running icacls E:\ /T /C /RESET
    • Manually setting E:\WindowsApps folder in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\PackageRoot key
The only thing I got with all these procedures was crashing my Start Menu to the point it wouldn't even open. I needed to recover to a restore point (which, gladly, I remembered to create before trying all the above steps).

My next step would be format the computer, but I'm saving this as the last resort, so I'd like to try some other things first.

Does anyone know any other way to manually change this "Change where this app installs games by default" option? Through registry or maybe some hidden config file?

I am currently using Win10 Version 20H2 (build 19042.985), Xbox App version 2105.1001.19.0

    Thank you!

    :)

Thanks for contacting us my name is Samy, I am advisor independent and I will be helping you today.

1.Open Windows Update and look for updates, update everything, including optional updates. Restart to apply updates and try again.

2.Press Windows Key + i and go to apps, search for ''gaming services'' click ''advanced options'' and then ''terminate, repair and reset. Try installing the game again.

3.Launch PowerShell as an administrator and enter

    “get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers”

Restart your PC, open PowerShell as admin again, and enter

    “start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN”

The Microsoft Store will open and ask to install Gaming Services, install. Then try installing any game again.

Go to Search, type powershell, and open PowerShell from the results.

Enter the following command, and press Enter:

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Wait for the process to finish.

After performing this PowerShell command, try to run your Xbox app for Windows 10 again and check if it corrected the issue.

If the issue persists, check for the latest Windows updates:

    1. Click the Start button and select Settings.
    2. Pick Update & Security to open the Windows Update window.
    3. Click the Check for updates button and wait a few seconds to see if there are any new ones.
    4. If there are, click on Install now.

The easiest solution I found was changing where new apps are installed in the settings I just changed the drive and went back to the Xbox app and they were all there then I chose the correct one I wanted the game to download to.

I fixed this issue on my end by deleting an invalid entry in the registry here:

    • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\PackageVolumes
I had 3 volumes listed but one of them didn't exist since I swapped a HDD. Completely removing the associated keys and restarting the xbox app fixed it.

Glad to hear it, mate. The in-place upgrade would be the last step I would recommend.
