    Storage Device too slow error

I bought an external hard drive, a 2TB WD Passport 25E2, it is a USB 3.0 device. When I put it on my Xbox Series S it is loaded as a media device, when I change it to a Capture Device it shows an error that your device is too slow. I am unable to install games on it. Is there an fix for it?

    :)

    Storage Device too slow error

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

    First try this https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-ne...

Also note that optimized games for the Series S can't be installed to just any drive. You'll need to get the Seagate Expansion card to do that.

    Storage Device too slow error

Xbox Series X|S games can only be installed on the console's internal storage or the external Seagate SSD card. Link here. External drives are too slow for those games. The external hard drive can only be used to install backward compatible games (Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One).

    USB Hub with memory stick

You know in order to use storage on a hub you need a powered hub right ?

Storages.draws too much power to even activate over hubs it has to be a powered hub nor would I recommend using s hub for storage

It splits the bandwidth too much

It's fine for 5watt changing of devices too slow for phones but not for storage

Which is why multi chargers draws less power with more devices connected

    External Storage

Regular storage devices are too slow to run optimized games, but they can store them. You can also get the Seagate Expansion Card to add more storage and run optimized games on a Series S/X.

They made this well known when the consoles were released.

Xbox Seagate 8tb external hard drive issues

    Hi there,

I had issues with the 8TB external hard drive from Seagate too, which als had the console thinking updates for games were needed. Besides that I had occasional slowness when booting on the console on the dashboard and controller slowness. Eventually I found out it wasn't the console, but it was the external drive itself. Seagate has a tool called SeaTools which can be installed on a PC and can be used to scan the external storage device (when it is connected to that PC) and in my situation that tool found severe errors on the drive itself and it had to be replaced (was still within warranty for me, so I was in luck)

So in your situation it might be useful to use SeaTools too to check your external storage device just to be sure. Keep in that it may result in you having to redownload the games that are on that drive though,
