Stopping a game update via windows update has uninstalled the game

As it says in the title. Turned on my gaming laptop today and windows update had a 15GB update for Forza Horizon 5.

I'm in a hotel with limited bandwidth and the useless windows store doesn't have a pause option anymore, so I stopped the download as it was hogging bandwidth I needed elsewhere.

Lo and behold, I discover it has also had the unintended effect of UNINSTALLING FH5 completely.

Brilliant. Masterpiece.

Honestly, you'd think no one at MS had gamed on a windows system in their lives.

So instead of leaving the DL running overnight and being able to play tomorrow, I'll have to either redownload over the next few days or just forget it and do it when I'm at home.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there a possible workaround ie perhaps the files are still there? I don't have access to the windows apps folder on the drive it was installed to and I don't really want to mess around with permissions as I've been burned that way before - again, we're windows users, this isn't a console. Why can't it install to a regular folder?

System restore didn't work.

Someone needs to feedback just how awful the ms store and xbox app are. Maybe one day Ms will realise its a pc not a console and provide flexibility and functionality.

Thanks. Given it had disappeared from my apps and also the free space on disk had increased significantly, I just started a redownload. It wouldn't be a bad idea to allow pausing of large updates on windows update.

Programs and apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store are installed in the following path by default: C:/Program Files/WindowsApps (Hidden items). To check hidden items, open This PC, click View and select Hidden items.

To take over the folder;

- Here is the path you should follow: C

rogram Files.

- Go to View and check the box next to Hidden items.

- Locate the Windows Apps folder and right-click on it.

- Select Properties from the drop-down menu.Select Security. Then select Advanced.

- Go to Owner. There click Change.Enter Microsoft account email address.

- Check the box next to ‘Replace owner on subcontainers and objects’.

- Apply your changes.

- Locate and click your account in the list. Click Edit.

- Check the box next to Full Control.

What am absolute pile of junk. More fool me for being stupid enough to go back to using the xbox app and Windows store.

What really irks is that the xbox app does allow you to pause a download, it's the ms store and its updates that doesn't.
